Subway Surfers Ranked in Top Android Apps: Is Subway Surfers 2 Coming

Mobile games come and go, but occasionally a few manage to establish themselves with strong popularity for a long time. “Temple Run” didn’t seem like a big contender when it first came out, but it quickly became clear that the game had a strong potential, one that was also realized by its developers subsequently. It’s been two years since the game came out, and its popularity doesn’t seem to be declining anytime soon – it’s actually still one of the most popular apps on Google’s Play Store.

This is coming straight from Google themselves, after the company recently published a ranking of the most popular apps and games on their platform. In that list, “Subway Surfers” was ranked in the top 5, right next to other major hits like “Candy Crush Saga”, “Cut the Rope 2” and even “Angry Birds Go!”. “Temple Run 2” is also on the list, and it’s peculiar to see two games with such similar concepts enjoying the same level of popularity.

The game’s success alongside “Temple Run 2” has been attributed to its original art style by most critics. It has a completely different theme and setting, with a much more vibrant color palette, and an overall style that’s more attractive to a wider audience. And of course, the game also pulls off some solid gameplay with tight controls and good variety.

Because of its immense popularity, fans have been wondering if a sequel is coming soon. At this point, an eventual “Subway Surfers 2” really wouldn’t be out of the question – it worked for “Temple Run”, so it should also work for this title, by all accounts. The reason for the lack of a current sequel could be explained by several things, including the most obvious factor of the game’s currently already high popularity.

It doesn’t really make that much sense for the developers to start thinking about a sequel when their current game is already performing so well, as they would practically create competition for themselves – not to mention that they would split their community, something which is traditionally frowned upon by gaming communities.

On the other hand, the game still has a lot of potential for improvement, and not all of it can be realized through simple updates for the current game. At some point, the developers will need to start thinking about branching their ideas off into a sequel if they want to keep the game fresh and alive, although by the time this happens, the popularity of the current game will probably have gone down enough to warrant a sequel anyway. The developers themselves haven’t said anything about the possibility of a sequel so far.
