Still no Official News on Iron Man 4, Robert Downey Jr. Confirms Role in Captain America 3: Civil War

Recently, Robert Downey Jr. has been teasing fans about the possibility of a new installment in the “Iron Man” series, although nothing official has been said yet, and the actor’s been intentionally vague in every statement he makes about the film. Recently, it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing in another Marvel title, and while some fans were speculating that this was a small confirmation about the new “Iron Man”, it later appeared that this was not the case – the actor was reportedly scheduled to play in “Captain America 3: Civil War”, and that’s what the revelation was about.

Still, Robert Downey Jr. hasn’t been able to keep completely silent on the issue, and he’s dropped the occasional remark about “Iron Man 4” when asked about the movie directly. His statements have been mostly cryptic so far, not revealing anything particularly useful – and for the most part, he keeps telling fans that it’s up to the studio to officially announce anything.

However, Internet users are known for being able to read between the lines, and some have been taking this statement as confirmation that the movie is in production, and that the actor simply isn’t allowed to say anything about it himself. That would certainly make sense if Marvel have their own schedule for the marketing of “Iron Man 4”, and it’s likely that the company would want to get the hype started when they have planned to.

Of course, some have been questioning whether a fourth movie is coming at all – the way the story was concluded in the third movie didn’t leave many possibilities for an interesting continuation. There has been speculation that if a new “Iron Man” movie is made, it would be a drastic departure from the style of the franchise so far, and would explore a new angle for telling the story.

Marvel certainly have a lot planned right now, and even if the studio is considering a potential “Iron Man 4”, it wouldn’t be very wise to announce it in this particular moment. It would make more sense for the studio to wait a few months and make their major releases that they have planned, instead of trying to squeeze yet another production in their already busy release schedule.

Plus, the attention of their fans is not an unlimited resource either, and while people would certainly be excited to learn about a new “Iron Man”, the film might not realize the full potential of its popularity if it’s released right now, alongside everything else, according to critics. Marvel are not known for compromising the integrity of their franchises for quick profits, so they likely won’t go down that way.
