Steve Kerr Says Warriors Winning More Games is More Important than Pushing Stephen Curry as MVP!

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr says that prolific guard Stephen Curry deserves to be the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) this season but he will not take any extra effort to campaign for his player to get the award.

He says that the more important for him and the team is for the Warriors to keep on winning more games on the way to going deep into the playoffs, notes Yahoo! Sports from an AFP report.

At 47-12 win-loss card as of March 6, the Golden State Warriors are neck in neck with the Atlanta Hawks for the overall best record in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks, sporting a 48-12 win-loss slate.

Having the best record to the post-season would mean that it will have homecourt advantage all throughout the playoffs including the Finals. Steve Kerr has won five championships as a player – three with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs – so he knows how important winning more games is.

He was actually part of the Chicago Bulls team during the 1995-96 season that posted an amazing 72-10 win-loss record, that will be extremely difficult to match if not surpass in the NBA.

Player focus

Unlike Steve Kerr who is team focus, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey appears to be player focus and is really campaigning hard to make prolific guard James Harden win the MVP honors this season.

Harden, whose averaging 26.9 points per game this season, is the frontrunner in the MVP race. Although Stephen Curry was the No. 1 NBA All-Star vote-getter this season, he only runs third with his 23.8 points per game. At second spot is Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James, who is norming 26.29 points per game.

In a conference last week about sports analytics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, the Rockets general manager has consistently hyped that James Harden was an MVP material.

He was quoted as saying that if they take out Harden from their team, the Houston Rockets will be nowhere basically, which from a Rockets role player standpoint is a downer, believe many experts.

Morey lauded Harden all the more when the Rockets beat the Cavaliers on March 1 that pitted the league’s two MVP contenders where LeBron James outpointed Harden 37-33 but Houston won via overtime 105-103.

It was also during the game that Harden kicked LeBron in the groin earning for him a flagrant foul 1, which was raised eventually to flagrant foul after the game that the Houston top man got suspended for the team’s next game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Morey said that he believes the reason why James Harden is MVP more than any other player in the NBA today is because he does not require too many ball possessions to score his points. This means that Harden’s averages and efficiency with the ball in his hands are way better than the other NBA superstars of today.
