Steam’s Security Issues Aftermath: Users Are Waking Up from Their Dream to the Realization That Valve Have Changed!

Valve are one of the companies with the best reputation in the gaming industry, and it took a lot of time and effort for them to get there. The company had many obstacles to overcome right from the start with the release of their first game. A game which almost nobody wanted to publish, but ended up becoming one of the most important releases in gaming of all time – “Half-Life”.

After that, Valve made several more successful releases, further building up their image in the public eye and becoming an even more prominent developer on the market. At some point though, something changed – Valve decided to focus on Steam, and while they managed to turn it into the most successful platform for distribution of PC games in the industry, some of their fans seem to believe that this all came at a price. And that price was a gradual change in attitude from Valve, turning them from everyone’s favorite game developer to a company focused almost entirely on making money from virtual cosmetics and developing their marketplace instead of working on actual games.

And that likely wouldn’t have been so bad if Valve had maintained the same level of quality and attitude to their work that they had for their games, but the more developed Steam becomes, the more obvious it’s getting that something is fundamentally wrong behind the doors of Valve.

One of the company’s most significant issues at the moment is related to the way they handle their customer support, and they have been criticized a lot for this. In fact, the situation got so ridiculous at one point that EA, a company that has traditionally been seen as one of the most “evil” game studios, managed to rise above Valve in people’s eyes for the quality of their customer support.

The issue with communication became painfully obvious a couple of weeks ago when Valve fell victim to a security flaw that left the information of many users exposed. There was no statement from the company for a while, and after they did come out to address the situation, they did it in a less than appropriate way according to many.

Currently, a lot is still unknown about the whole Steam security situation, and people are questioning exactly how much they can trust Valve with their information. If the company doesn’t take steps to address the problem, they could easily see their popularity going down even further and they may find themselves in a situation that they can’t get out of.

According to many, the main issue that Valve need to address right now is the state of Steam’s customer support. Compared to the instantly responsive live chat of Origin, having to wait one week for a response to a simple issue seems completely unacceptable, and this is something that people have been complaining about for a long time now. However, whether Valve will ever take the issue seriously is still under question.

For many gamers, especially Valve’s fans, this is a problem. Valve were seen as one of the few remaining developers who prioritized quality over profits in their work, and this was the main reason for many people to love the company so much. This relationship was built mainly on trust though, trust that has been getting eroded over time. The situation could actually reach the point where Valve will have a truly good release lined up, but people will be skeptical of their motives.
