Steam Set to Pave the Way for the Launching of ‘Otherland’ on August 26

The third is “Sky Rogue” which features a stylish retro anime-style look, a nice sense of speed, and a superb sound effect. While it feels like it is from the games “Ace of Combat” or “Crimson Skies,” it is still fun to play because it has the same gameplay as “Rougelike” but in the sky.

Those three games are certainly not to be considered the best new games on Steam, but there is now way of telling how nice and exciting to play a game is on Steam unless a gamer spends time playing each one of those games. Before it implemented Steam, Valve had problems updating its online games, such as the popular “Counter-Strike,” providing patches that would result in most of the online user base disconnecting for several days.

Thus, Valve decided to create a platform that would update games automatically and implement stronger anti-piracy and anti-cheat measures. The company has actually approached several companies including Microsoft, Yahoo! and RealNetworks to build a client with these features but were refused.

So Valve decided to build the platform on its own. The software was first revealed to the public on March 22, 2002, during that year’s Game Developers Conference, where it was presented purely as a distribution network.
