Steam seems to be in the center of such incidents every now and then, but Valve tend to always take adequate action, and they know how to handle their relations with their customers too. So far, the company has been doing things right when it comes to disasters with developers publishing on Steam.
We have no reason to believe that this is going to change now, and even though Valve have been quiet about what’s going on, this is completely normal given that they are currently involved in legal action.
Some game developers have also expressed criticism towards the incident, claiming that it’s not right for a company to go after those being negative about it. Of course, when reviews contain slander, that’s a different situation, but the law has to decide whether that was the case or not.
This should hopefully serve as a warning sign to other developers thinking of exploiting Steam and its open nature, as Valve have made it clear that they are always going to take the side of their users when they deem it appropriate.
We expect to hear more about the situation in the coming weeks as the legal action against Jim Sterling and Valve moves forward, and hopefully the news will be positive. As for Digital Homicide, we’re not sure if the developers will ever be able to recover from the backlash they are suffering right now, and they may want to look into changing the company’s name.
