During the D23 Expo held recently in Anaheim, California, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that “Star Wars Episode IX” of the franchise is confirmed, and it is to be directed by Colin Trevorrow, the same man who helmed “Jurassic World,” which has shot to blockbuster success quite recently to officially become the third in the list of highest grossing movies of all time.
The producers also revealed the new poster from iconic “Star Wars” artist Drew Struzan, showed the first image from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” a spin-off of the franchise which will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
It is likely that most of the characters of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will reprise their roles in “Star Wars Episode VIII” including Harrison Ford, Mark Hammill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, and a few others.
Meanwhile, a new set of leaked images from the production set of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” gives hints of the planet where Luke Skywalker is, which is likely the next setting for “Star Wars Episode VIII.”
The images show the Resistance Bay, which is the rebel base in the movie and also gave a glimpse of some of the ships and other set pieces that were used in the film.
At the end of the movie, Rey returns the lightsaber to Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hammill, at the Jedi Monastery. The leaked report states that the Monastery will not be on the same planet as the location of the Resistance Bay.
