Recently, the tides have actually turned in an interesting fashion. While EA keep improving on multiple fronts, from their customer service to their pricing and game quality, some companies which used to have a very good reputation with gamers have been falling down a bit lately.
For example, Valve have been slowly losing gamers’ patience, and many people have started to express severe disappointment with the company’s recent decisions. Their only redeeming quality right now seems to be their work on “Dota 2” and the competitive aspect of the game.
EA on the other hand keep releasing new games and communicating with their fans. They might not get it right every time – as was the case with “Star Wars Battlefront”, but at least they’re showing an obvious desire to improve the situation and to give gamers the impression that they actually care.
It would be interesting to see where both companies are a year from now, or more. Some gamers are predicting the downfall of Valve, but it’s hard to tell who would take their place if that ended up happening.
Steam is a mess in many ways too, and the platform has been crumbling under its own weight lately. Valve might need to take a step back and seriously reevaluate their direction if they don’t want to become an irrelevant company that people would rather forget. But let’s not get too pessimistic yet. Until something more serious happens, gamers should check out the freely available “Star Wars Battlefront” once it’s added to EA Access.
