Few names in the cinema industry can generate hype as fast as “Star Wars”, and just recently we’ve seen another round of interesting discussions concerning the upcoming eighth installment in the main saga. The name of the new film is now confirmed as “The Last Jedi”, and fans have been poking left and right for more details. Alas, the producers and everyone involved in the new film have been keeping completely quiet and don’t seem very keen on sharing any details right now.
Of course, anyone familiar with “Star Wars” should know that this is completely expected, as Disney are one of the more secretive companies on the market, while the series itself is highly discussed by all of its fans and therefore kept under wraps for the most part.
We’ve seen some interesting discussions about the film on the official front lately, for example certain statements made by director Rian Johnson, who wanted to shed some light on the original inspiration behind some of the film’s elements.
It appears as if three films in particular served as the main source of inspiration for the new production – “Twelve O’Clock High”, “Three Outlaw Samurai”, and “To Catch a Thief” were specifically named by the director. It should go without saying that it’s very likely to see “Star Wars” fans rushing to check out these productions sooner or later, as everyone will want to see what they can expect from the upcoming “The Last Jedi”.
Of course, we don’t actually expect the film to directly copy its inspirations, but it should at least include some familiar elements. The director went on to explain what specific aspect of each film was used in making “Star Wars 8”, and those who’re interested in digging deeper into the production should definitely check out the comments by Johnson.
In other news, there was some minor controversy surrounding “Frozen” star Josh Gad, who confronted Daisy Ridley in an unusual manner with requests for more information about the upcoming film. The video became highly controversial in practically no time, and it’s been discussed a lot in communities related to the franchise. However, it seems to be a passing situation more than anything else, as all the attention on the incident is already dying down.
There are also rumors that we might see more spin-offs in the tone of “Rogue One” sooner than most fans expect. The film was quite successful and it filled a gap in the hearts of many fans, as it would have been excruciating for followers of the franchise to have to go for a whole year without anything new to watch.
That might be a questionable statement, considering how long they went without any news at all, but now that the ball is rolling on the new trilogy, it’s a different story and everyone’s expectations are a bit higher. And as the release date of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” draws closer, we expect to see even more anticipation in the community, and more fans trying their best to get their hands on some new information.
At the same time, we’ve also seen some strange statements by people involved in the production, and it seems like not everyone wants to keep the hype train going. Some would apparently prefer to keep things more private until the very end, including actor Adam Driver, who brought up the suggestion that the new film shouldn’t even have any trailer at all.
