With a July 22, 2016 playdate, the third installment to the “Star Trek” reboot film franchise entitled “Star Trek Beyond” should have been in post-production phase by this time.
However, the movie has taken on a major new cast member that Director Justin Lin will do some reshoots next week to film the scenes that include the newest character addition to the movie series.
Apparently, Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, known for her movies such as “House of Sand and Fog” and “House of Saddam,” will be joining “Star Trek Beyond” and will take on the role of the High Command of the Federation, reports Deadline.
Aghdashloo is the first Iranian woman to win an Emmy back in 2009 and also appeared on the hit TV series “24” starring Kiefer Sutherland. The Iranian actress is now preparing for the TV series on Syfy network entitled “The Expanse” whose production for its Season 2 is set to begin next month in Toronto, Canada.
The Iranian actress plays a powerful politician in the TV series. She also played the role of Dr. Kavita Rao in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” She was also seen appearing on “Grimm,” the TV series.
A problem in post-production
In a previous interview, Justin Lin said that he was confident about the direction of the film and that it could very well finish filming way ahead of its scheduled release date.
However, it seems that they found a problem in the post-production, in addition to the latest inclusion of Aghdashloo, notes Gizmodo.
But instead of fixing the problem via CGI, Justin Lin decided to have a reshoot instead. The reshoots are meant to fix the problem and will certainly improve the movie.
While some critics are starting to worry that the reshoots might cause the delay in the release date of the movie, a great actress like Aghdashloo will not have any problem whether she was taken in merely as a quick fix or something more radical.
The five-year space mission
Just like in the original movie series, “Star Trek Beyond,” the third film in the rebooted “Star Trek” movie franchise, will have for a plotline the five-year intrepid space mission to be led by Captain James Kirk, played by Chris Pine, onboard the USS Enterprise.
Despite being a big movie, there is very little information regarding “Star Trek Beyond” except with the fact that filming has already wrapped up late last year.
The movie already has a confirmed playdate on worldwide theaters but the details of the film and its plotline are still shrouded in as much secrecy as Paramount can manage.
However, there a number of photos and videos from the movie that leaked to the internet featuring extras and the main cast actors on the movie’s outdoor sets.
There are also sanctioned leaks of late from actors Zoe Saldana, who plays Uhura, and Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock, via their social media accounts, sharing photos from the set in an effort to drumbeat and hype up fan excitement for the third movie of the rebooted franchise.
Paramount has likewise released the first official trailer for “Star Trek Beyond” and fans were finally able to get their first look at some actual footage from the film, which shall incidentally mark the 50th anniversary of the original TV show’s debut way back in 1966.
Based on the trailer of “Star Trek Beyond,” the plot of the film is going to focus on the five-year mission and if the reboot film is going to be faithful to the original movie, Captain Kirk, Spock, and the USS Enterprise team will head out in order to explore the final frontier that is space.
