In preparation for next month’s release, Paramount Pictures has released a pair of television spots for the highly-anticipated “Star Trek Beyond” and it has fans talking about the film more and more.
Stranded on a remote alien planet with no ship and no crew, Captain Kirk finds himself alone and with the threat of the newest villain, Krall. That is the premise of one of the latest TV spots for the upcoming film.
In one TV spot, Shohreh Aghdashloo’s character was also seen. The Emmy Award-winning actress was the latest addition to the cast and is playing the role of the High Command of the Federation. Her casting was announced in March this year and her scenes were included through reshoots for the film.
“Star Trek Beyond” is the latest installment of the popular “Star Trek” franchise. It is the third film in the reboot series following 2009’s “Star Trek” and 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness.”
Justin Lin returns as the director of the upcoming film while Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprise their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock, respectively. JJ Abrams also returns as producer for the film.
Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin are also returning to reprise their roles from previous films with Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella joining them.
Elba will portray the film’s big bad Krall while other actors joining the film for yet unspecified roles are Joe Taslim and Lydia Wilson. The film follows approximately three years after the events of “Into Darkness.”
In the upcoming film, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
The film was originally scheduled to come out earlier but Paramount had to push back its release date in time for the 50th-anniversary celebration of Gene Roddenberry’s original sci-fi series.
It was initially announced to be released on July 8, 2016, but was further pushed back to July 22, 2016. The film will be released in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.
Aside from fans, stars of the film are also excited for the film to hit theaters already. Saldana and Quinto, who play love interests and USS Enterprise crew members Uhura and Spock, spoke exclusively with EW giving hints at what fans can expect in the upcoming film.
Saldana says that Uhura and the crew are worn out but there’s no time for a break.
She further explains that life has a different journey for the characters, and instead of having to go out and aid other population, another planet that had been the target of violence, they are now the target so it’s very different from the previous two films.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” actress further says that Spock and James’ relationship will also be tested at the craziest level hinting that their disagreements may end up in a brawl.
Quinto, on the other hand, went more specific with the challenges Spock will be facing in the film saying that his character is in this existential moment in his life being at crossroads between his obligations to his Starfleet and his Vulcan roots.
Quinto adds that Spock is coming into a new awareness of his morality for a number of reasons and there’s a lot of stuff that he’s trying to figure out in the film.
The “Heroes” alum says that the most important thing he has to figure out in the film is how to get back to his crew after they become separated. Another thing he needs to figure out is his relationship with Uhura.
