Star Trek 3 is most likely going to be a very good movie as long as it takes place right after the first two that were received very well. Star Trek 3 is still in the search for a director, but according to sources, the list has been reduced to just 5. The search is on because the original director, Roberto Orci is being replaced according to sources. The list of directors that the production company is looking at is narrower than it was last week bringing the possibility of a direction choice soon.
The movie is going to be a top notch prospect and that makes it one of the hottest director openings of the year. The short list includes Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Gambler. According to one source, he is the top prospect for bringing the movie to completion. Morten Tyldum, Daniel Espinosa, Duncon Jones and Justin Lin are also a part of that elite list. The fact most of these directors are in the elite crowd and could present other issues.
Scheduling conflicts are one of the major reasons that directors are not able to do movies that they might want to do. Boston Strong is expected to be directed by Espinosa and that could present a problem, whereas Jones could be in the middle of directing Warcraft, which is based on the video game. Orci was not the first director to leave the project. JJ Abrams was the first to leave when the Star Wars franchise was expected to be revived.
Earlier this month, Orci left the project as director, but is still going to be a producer of the movie along with JJ Abrams. Orci was around for the first two installments of Star Trek while Abrams was the director, so it will be nice that he is still involved to some degree. The bad thing about moving to a new director is that they have to get caught up to where production is and hopefully will be on board with where it is headed.
Paramount has spoken up about the new Star Trek movie and according to one online source, the production company would like the movie to be more like Guardians of the Galaxy. Some rumors have been floating around that the reason that Orci left the director chair because of the way Paramount wanted the direction of the movie was to go. The company wants the third film to be huge and that could include more of a role from Keenser, like Rocket in the Guardians movie.
