Much of the focus of Marvel Studios these days is on its upcoming film, “Captain America: Civil War,” due to hit global theaters on May 6, 2016.
However, one of the facets of promotions of the upcoming third Captain America movie is Tom Holland’s debut as Spider-Man. The film also happens to be the first foray of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the deal forged between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures in February of last year.
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said that “Spider-Man” reboot may not be as big as the “Captain America” or “Iron Man” trilogy but he added that smaller scale is relative.
Feige said that the “Spider-Man” stand-alone film is going to be as big and spectacular a Spider-Man movie as has ever been made, notes Cosmic Booknews.
He added that the movie will exude a John Hughes-vibe and is not necessarily small scale, contrary to rumors that have been going around about the film. However, Feige confirmed that the “Spider-Man” reboot is going to be a Peter Parker story and shall focus on the story of a 15-year-old kid going to high school.
A coming of age story will do the trick
Over the past 14 years, there have been five movies and two franchises for “Spider-Man,” all under the stable of Sony Pictures.
The first one was the “Spider-Man” franchise that starred Tobey Maguire while the second film series is “The Amazing Spider-Man” featuring Andrew Garfield.
Both series showed how Peter Parker got his powers when he was bitten by a spider, although the spider in “The Amazing Spider-Man” is a little more powerful compared to the one in “Spider-Man” because it came from a lab experiment.
Apparently, the “Spider-Man” reboot of Marvel will no longer show how Peter Parker will get his power but proceed straight to the alter ego of the superhero being in high school and has been a web-slinger for about two years already. It appears that when Spider-Man appears in “Captain America: Civil War” in May this year, Peter Parker would have been donning the Spidey suit for about a year already.
Reports have it that Director Jon Watts and writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are going to stick to the premise made by Kevin Feige for the “Spider-Man” reboot.
However, in order to differentiate it from its predecessor series, critics believe that the reboot should focus heavily on a coming of age story. By drawing on the comics for the pain and conflicts that come with discovering that Peter Parker have superpowers in a high school setting, the film could be able to touch on the universal themes of entering adulthood while still telling a wholly-original Spider-Man tale, details Screen Rant.
Drawing influence from predecessor actors
Tom Holland admitted that his take on the character was actually influenced by the two other actors who previously played the role, referring to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
He says that it is impossible not to draw influence from the two previous actors who played the character before him. In fact, Holland even lauded Tobey and Andrew for their real and rich performances as Spider-Man.
However, he said that he would have a different take on Peter Parker and Spider-Man because the idea of the reboot is to make it different, new, and a very exciting movie.
The ‘Spider-Man’ reboot movie is to hit global theaters on July 28, 2017, but rumors and speculations about the film have started making the rounds on the internet.
High among the rumors about the movie is the Iron Spider costume of Tom Holland that shall reportedly blow the minds of the viewers away. But the suit will not be showcased during Spider-Man’s formal debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe via “Captain America: Civil War.”
