‘Spider-Man’ Movie Reboot to Feature New Villains Not Seen in Previous Spider-Man Films

The “Spider-Man” movie reboot will introduce new cast members, led by Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. In addition, the movie will also get new writers, as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have chosen John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to pen the screenplay for the film.

According to American Live Wire, the film reboot has only chosen Tomei and Holland thus far as part of the new cast, and beyond that, other cast members have yet to be named. However, it has been revealed that Jon Watts will be the new director of the movie.

The new plot of the movie will bring Peter Parker, the alter-ego of the web-crawling superhero, back to high-school. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige explained that the new setting was chosen because it had a lot of options for them, details Slash Film.

Apparently, with Peter Parker being a high school character, there will be a lot of sides not just to him, but also the supporting characters and the villains. According to Feige, Marvel wants to play with the kid who doesn’t fit in before he gets his powers, in contrast to the full-fledged web-slinging superhero who already fights the city’s villains.

He also added that Spider-Man’s age makes him very different from all the other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adding further that they want to explore the uniqueness of Spider-Man compared to all the other superhero characters in the Marvel stable.

Feige also pointed out that it will be the first time the audience will be able to see Spider-Man like he was in the comics. Spider-Man will now be portrayed as the kid from Queens who suddenly gets new powers. When asked about the villains, Feige explained that they are interested in seeing villains that were never featured before in past “Spider-Man” films.

In addition, Marvel has pointed out that the key to preventing multiplex overloads with superheroes is to make the movies in different genres, which raised the question of whether or not the “Spider-Man” reboot will be a different genre.

Marvel’s decision to introduce villains that were never seen before have also raised speculations about who the next villain might be. According to Movie Pilot, the statement excludes all the villains that have previously appeared in Spider-Man sequels.

Therefore, the reboot will not include Dr. Octopus, the Greene Goblin, Lizard, Sandman, Venom, and Electro. The list of possible Spider-Man villains includes Carnage, Vulture, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, and the Chameleon.

Carnage is a character from  “Spider-Man” comics who has powers similar to Venom. What makes him suitable for the new film reboot is the fact that he is stronger than Venom and can use his abilities to shape-shift.

Vulture is a member of the Sinister Six, a group of Spider-Man’s enemies. Before becoming Vulture, he was an inventor named Adrian Toomes. As a scientist, he created a flight harness that gave him strength. After losing his job, he soon became a villain.

Mysterio is a master of hypnosis and illusion, which makes him one of the theatrical villains. Even though he is a character difficult to portray on the screen, the characterization of Mysterio could be achieved with visuals and multiple plot twists.

Kraven the Hunter is a character who has the ability to hunt down and kill even the strongest animals. Kraven would be easy to adapt for film, given the fact that he can be easily grounded in reality. He could also easily adapt to the high-school setting of the film reboot.

Chameleon is the original villain from “The Amazing Spider-Man” comic-book series. Since he is an intelligent character who can use his impressions ability to take on the role of any other character, he can surely make things difficult for the teenage Spider-Man.
