Spider-Man has always been a Marvel superhero. There is no need to show loads of Marvel comics to prove that fact.
However, the web-slinging superhero has not been part of the first Avengers movie as well as the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron” showing on May 1, 2015 because the rights to Spider-Man belong to Sony Pictures.
Marvel Studios and its parent company Walt Disney Pictures, maintain the rights to the rest of Marvel superheroes.
Following the massive hack on Sony in December last year, there was just plenty of information that leaked to the internet about the production company’s future film production plans.
A handshake to seal the deal
One of those crucial information is that Sony and Marvel Studios are reportedly in the final leg of discussions and negotiations for the possible inclusion of Spider-Man in the Marvel cinematic universe, disclose the Latino Review in a report.
There was an initial discussion several months ago but the terms were not agreed upon. However, latest rumor on the negotiations between Sony and Marvel is that a deal has already been made and that both parties have already sealed it with a handshake.
While both Sony and Marvel have yet to make any announcement to confirm the deal, it is likely that Spider-Man will be joining the third Avengers movie titled: “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” showing on 2018. And it is likely that the deal will also go through until the fourth movie the “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” slated on 2019.
One other juicy information that came out as part of the deal between Sony and Marvel is that Andrew Garfield, who played Peter Parker and the wall-climbing superhero in the last two “The Amazing Spider-Man” movies will not be playing Spidey in the Marvel cinematic universe.
Missed window of opportunity
According also to the Latino Review report, Marvel has the intention to insert Spider-Man in the third Captain America movie titled “Captain America: Civil War” but since the studio’s negotiations with Sony fell through, the plan was pushed back.
Having missed the good window of opportunity, there is no better chance to allow for the insertion of Spider-Man in any other upcoming Marvel movie except for the third Avengers movie, which is what was finally agreed upon when the two parties sat down again together and forged a deal.
Now, it is not clear if the deal with Marvel would affect Sony’s supposed plan to start filming “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” very soon or if the production outfit would still have Andrew Garfield playing the lead role.
In light of its supposed deal with Marvel, questions are now being asked whether Sony will still push through with its plan to do a movie on the Sinister Six and other female-centric superhero spinoffs.
