Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, is confident that fans would fall in love with Spider-Man all over again in the upcoming reboot of the franchise via “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” due to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
During an interview at the recently concluded San Diego ComicCon, Feige was quoted as saying that the decision to reintroduce a new Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Captain America: Civil War” has been a great success.
He explained that it got most people and fans leaving the theaters and saying that they love the new Spider-Man and they wanted to see more of him, reports Collider.
Feige said that “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is going to be a great film and it will showcase Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make everybody fall in love with him all over again.
One other thing that seems to be going for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is the decision to focus on the web-slinging superhero character as a high school student.
Having a Peter Parker in high school was one of the first decisions made by Marvel when it was granted by Sony the creative control of the character following their historic collaboration in February last year.
First official footage
In addition to the presence of Kevin Feige during the Marvel Studios presentation panel at the San Diego ComicCon, the first footage of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” was also presented at the event, drawing warm reception from fans.
When he was asked if they intend to keep Peter Parker in high school in the possible sequels of the movie, Feige said that what they did has been a very carefully plotted step-by-step process.
The footage also gave a glimpse on Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes, a.k.a the villain Vulture, wearing a technologically-inclined costume and not organic as opposed to the previous villains of the franchise.
The costume of Vulture shall remind Marvel fans of the other Avenger superheroes such as the Falcon and Iron Man. He will be the first Spider-Man villain operating within the MCU, which gives the character a great chance to make an impact on the universe, as he shall both be taking on Spider-Man and show the Marvel universe what Spider-Man villains are really made of, notes Screen Rant.
There are a few reasons that fans should be excited about seeing Vulture onscreen in “Spider-Man: Homecoming and having the character taken on by a great and veteran actor like Michael Keaton is regarded by some as merely the tip of the iceberg.
Featuring a highway chase
Counting only from the time when Sony Pictures got hold of the web-slinging superhero franchise, there have been five “Spider-Man” films in the past – three where Tobey Maguire played as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and two by Andrew Garfield.
The upcoming “Spider-Man: Homecoming” set to debut in worldwide theaters on July 7, 2017 will be the sixth film but it will only be the first time that there will be a highway chase involved.
In recent behind-the-scene photos posted on Looper for “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and his high school classmates are on a field trip to Washington DC when something goes wrong.
The situation prompted Peter Parker to break out his mask and come back as Spider-Man to rescue his classmates.
The scene appears to be some kind of highway chase which is actually a first for any of the Spider-Man films. The wall-climbing superhero will jump onto some kind of construction truck.
It is likely that Spidey will bounce around without the need of a blue trampoline and a couple of cables.
