Counting only from the time when Sony Pictures got hold of the web-slinging superhero franchise, there have been five “Spider-Man” films in the past – three where Tobey Maguire played as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, and two by Andrew Garfield.
The upcoming “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” set to debut in worldwide theaters on July 17, 2017, will be the sixth film but it will only be the first time that there will be a highway chase involved.
In recent behind-the-scene photos posted on Looper for “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and his high school classmates were seen on a field trip to Washington DC when something goes wrong.
The situation prompted Peter Parker to break out his mask and come back as Spider-Man to rescue his classmates.
The scene appears to be some kind of highway chase which is actually a first for any of the Spider-Man films. The wall-climbing superhero will jump onto some kind of construction truck, details Lazy Gamer.
It is likely that Spidey will bounce around without the need of a blue trampoline and a couple of cables.
Interestingly, the costume of Spider-Man in the scene is pretty much the same as the one he wore and showed during “Captain America: Civil War” which means the scenes is just at the beginning of the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” movie.
It has been reported that Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr. shall design Peter Parker the iron spider suit, which would be one of the biggest surprises and highlights of the movie when it hits theaters next year.
The next Marvel superhero?
With the young Tom Holland getting a crack at the Marvel Cinematic Universe with “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” there are now speculations that actress Anna Kendrick can also be the next to have a part in the MCU, reports Movieweb.
While promoting her latest movie “Mike and Dave Wedding Dates,” Anna Kendrick was asked what superhero or comic book character she might like to play.
Kendrick said that she wanted to play Squirrel Girl and it was based on the fact that her brother sent her a Squirrel Girl comic book because her brother thinks that she should play the character.
She admitted that she does not know what Squirrel Girl does other than be a half squirrel but she says she could still do that if it need be.
What Anna Kendrick does not know is that Squirrel Girl has a very intense cult following within the Marvel fanbase and her name has been mentioned for the role because she seems perfect for it.
However, all these remain as speculations pending the confirmation from Marvel Studios. Anyway, the earliest a new Marvel movie that does not have a specific title could come out is in 2020 yet.
Completing the casting
After a slow casting start, it seems that Marvel Studios has gone full blast with its effort to complete the cast of “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
A total of seven actors were added to the cast of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” in the last week of June topped off by Bokeem Woodbine from the TV series “Fargo.” Woodbine shall reportedly play the third villain role in the movie following Michael Keaton’s The Vulture and Logan Marshall-Green.
Woodbine was taken in by the movie following Hannibal Buress of “Neighbors,” Abraham Atta of “No Nation,” Michael Mando of “Better Call Saul,” Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendenborg Jr., and J.J. Totah.
It has been announced earlier that “Spider-Man: Homecoming” shall have Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as Michelle, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Michael Keaton as The Vulture, Donald Glover, Michael Barbieri, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Kenneth Choi, and Martin Starr.
