Sony’s new entry into the smartphone market may be coming out soon, according to reports. There has been a lot of hype surrounding the device, and rightfully so – the previous smartphones released by the company in their Xperia line have been quite successful, with each one building on the established platform. The Xperia line is currently one of the best Android offerings, and the release of the Z4 may very well solidify that position, from what’s been shown about the device so far.
Although Sony themselves haven’t said much about what we can expect from the new Xperia Z4, information has managed to make its way to the public one way or another, and so far quite a lot is known about the upcoming smartphone. It will support wireless charging, and won’t rely on the old clumsy magnetic design present on the original Xperia Z.
The phone will have an impressive display resolution of 1920×1080, bigger than what most tablets are offering right now, although rumors seem to be conflicting about this aspect right now. According to some, the display resolution will actually be 2560×1440 instead, spread across a 5.5” screen. Some critics in the field have been questioning the recent trend for smartphones to go up in their resolution so much, stating that it feels uncomfortable and clumsy. And yet, some markets, particularly Asian ones, have been seeing a lot of popularity for these large smartphones exactly. There is obviously some application for them in the world of multimedia and office tasks, so it might make sense for Sony to try and release a large-screen device right now.
One of the main features of the device will be its large-sensor rear camera, which will capture your photos at an amazing 20.7 megapixel. This is quite high for a smartphone, as very few devices on the market can measure up to it. Perhaps the biggest contender is Nokia (now Microsoft)’s Lumia 1020, which has so far been unbeaten with its 41 megapixel camera. But 20.7 is still more than enough for a smartphone, especially if the other components of the camera are good enough – and this is Sony, which means that the camera should be one of the best on the market.
While the release date remains unknown, it can be guessed based on Sony’s previous releases. The device will likely come out in January, if the company decides to follow their previous trends, so fans should start saving up now if they want to get their hands on the new Xperia Z4 as it comes out. Some were expecting the company to try and meet the holiday season this year, but apparently this isn’t the plan, at least not anymore.
