April appears to be the month for flagship smartphones. Samsung and HTC have just started rolling out their top-of-the-line handsets to the retail markets while LG is planning to roll out its flagship G4 on April 24.
Springing from almost out of nowhere, Sony shall reportedly beat LG to the launching draw by rolling out to the market its flagship smartphone on April 20, reports GSM Arena.
While this is just a rumor, and the timing to prove whether the report is real or not is just too short, it seems that the idea of the Japanese tech company is to have that element of surprise in order to pull the rug from under the competition.
A toss-up
Because Sony has yet to confirm anything at this point, there have also been reports that the Japanese tech company is not actually rolling out the Xperia Z4 next week but a refreshed edition of the Xperia Z3 model that is why the short timing. The handset shall reportedly be called the Xperia Z3 Neo.
Several reports indicate that Sony Xperia Z4 shall make use of a metal unibody for its latest handset and will do away with its traditional glass case. It shall also come along with a fingerprint sensor.
The latest Sony flagship smartphone shall also redesign the power button that has become the hallmark of its Xperia Z devices.
But the latest leaked images of the supposed new smartphone from the company showed that the power button remains the same lending credence to the other rumors that Sony may indeed be rolling out the Xperia Z3 Neo this month and not its vaunted Xperia Z4.
Other rumored features
The other rumored features of the smartphone are that it shall come with a 5.2-inch display screen either in a full HD or QHD resolution. It shall also have a Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 430 GPU, and a 4GB RAM. In addition, it will have internal storage capacity of either 32 GB or 64GB which can further be expanded through a microSD card.
As Sony’s usual advantage over other smartphone makers, the rear-facing camera of its upcoming handset shall have a 20.7-megapixel resolution while its front-facing snapper shall have a resolution of 5 megapixels.
It is not just water proof but dust proof as well. It will also be powered by a 3,420 mAH battery, for longer battery life, which is yet another advantage of Sony smartphones over other handsets. It shall also sport a set of stereo speakers at the top and bottom of the display screen, which is another of its great features.
Reports also indicate that the latest smartphone from the Japanese tech company shall come out of the box with Android 5.0.2, which is somehow consistent with the latest reports indicating that Sony has just rolled out the firmware updates to Xperia Z devices a few days ago.
