Sony May Develop a More Compact Version of the PlayStation 4 in the Near Future, And More News

While Sony has not made any official announcement saying that it is working or even planning to develop a more compact version of the PlayStation 4 soon, the idea stems merely from what the company did to the PlayStation 3 more than three years ago.

When the PlayStation 3 was introduced in November 2006, a subsequent lighter, smaller, thinner, and cooler variant was eventually launched some six years later with the end in view of addressing the problems that the first gaming console had.

It could be remembered that overheating was a major problem with the first version of the PlayStation 3, which gamers and enthusiasts refer to as the yellow light of death. When the slimmer version was introduced, the problem of overheating has been solved.

Sony took all of the pros of the PlayStation 3 so much so that when it officially released the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, it no longer had the issues that previously nagged its predecessor gaming console.

The only major issue that PlayStation 4 had to contend with is the so-called blue light of death where it simply does not boot up. But Sony was able to address it right away with a couple of firmware updates to wake up the sleeping console and it worked.

Reliable and durable

Bidness ETC believes that the PlayStation 4 has been a fairly reliable and durable gaming console especially if taken good care of. But basing on the timeline of the PlayStation 3, Sony could actually decide on coming up with a much more compact version of the PlayStation 4 maybe two years down the road.

Sony would likely focus on modifying the single bar that does not have segregated power button and open switches on the gaming console. The present set up obligates the user to memorize the positions of the buttons. The new version could have illuminated buttons instead that would really show the power and open disc switches in the console, which would make it easier for the user to distinguish.

The company may also consider having its controllers with better analog stick covers. The users and gamers would surely appreciate that since the current controllers usually experience the peeling off of their outer cover after some time. This would be good for gamers as they would no longer be annoyed by the peeled off outer cover of their controllers.

As to the possible size of the next variant of the PlayStation 4, it could be slimmer than the already slim design of the current gaming console. It should be durable and must be even cooler than it is now which could be enhanced by a better cooling system. It is also expected that the slimmer variant of the PlayStation 4 would be less noisy when loading game discs, which is one of the current variant’s minor downsides.

Most users however would like Sony to maintain the visually-appealing diagonal design of the current PlayStation 4 if and when it finally decides to develop the slim variant of the gaming console in the near future.
