In the age of innovation and connectivity, there are numerous ways in which you can stay connected to your loved ones via your smartphone, tablet or PC. Most of these devices are available with a built-in secondary camera that helps in video chat. We compare between the top three applications that are presently ruling the global scenario, namely Skype, Viber and WeChat.
WhatsApp is just as popular as the three, if not more, although, we have not included it in the list due to the lack of certain features such as video conference and calling facility. Let’s start with Skype.
Skype:
Skype is THE most reliable, trusted and popular calling application around the world. It is a great alternative to the conventional phone call and can be conducted online via your smartphone or PC.
You just need a working internet plan and a device that supports Skype. However, in order to make group calls, at least one member needs to be a registered user. Skype has recently been added to Android, which in turn enhances its usability and practicality, although, you need to meticulously manage your device’s battery.
In order to access the world’s biggest base for VoIP, you need Skype. The user interface is practical, user-friendly and functional, which makes it a great alternative to conventional phone calls.
Viber:
Viber is another interesting option while accessing the VoIP database. It is easy to download, install and operate and can be accessed via smartphones and tablets. Viber uses the customer’s mobile number for verification, which is quite effective and time saving.
Viber was very recently launched on the PC too. Hence, making local and international calls just got easier. Even though Viber is not as hugely popular as Skype, it is quickly gaining ground. Skype is more suited to the PC as compared to mobile devices, whereas Viber is at home on smartphones and tablets.
WeChat:
WeChat is by far the most comprehensive chat application at our disposal. However, it’s not as popular as the others, although, this equation is changing very quickly. If you want to use WeChat, you need to invite as many friends as possible quickly.
Your service provider’s number is your unique ID while a confirmation is sent to the device as soon as you register with it. WeChat is popular mostly on mobile devices and the PC, although, maximum users log in via their Android smartphones or iPhone.
Similar applications like WhatsApp, Line and Hike, are quickly gaining ground, although, lack of video calling facilities on all three are getting in the way of success. However, if calling is not a priority, you might want to check out these three biggies as well.
