Kody Brown recently talked about the indifference and backlash he got when he publicly came out as a polygamist. The Brown patriarch said that he was surprised to find out that more people are not being open-minded and respectful about his choice for a polygamous marriage.
While he initially thought that their family reality show “Sister Wives”on TLC has already given people heads-up about what a polygamous marriage arrangement looks like, many still do not share his beliefs, notes Design & Trend.
Even before they started “Sister Wives” on TLC more than six years ago, they have been telling everyone they know, their friends, relatives, and colleagues that the Browns are just like every other normal family, with the obvious exception that the patriarch has four wives.
Mending their fences
Incidentally, the past few episodes of “Sister Wives” Season 7 show the relationship of first wife Meri and second wife Janelle getting worse for the wear.
While they remain civil with one another, it is clear that there is friction between them. They have been making attempts to mend their fences but their efforts are proving to be futile thus far.
In an attempt to finally patch things up, Meri and Janelle have also sat down with their therapist and talked about the tension between them. It would be interesting to find out if the sessions with the therapist would help clear both of their minds and decide to give their relationship another try.
The relationship of Meri and Janelle got fractured way back when Janelle broke up with Meri’s brother to become Kody’s second wife. Back then, Janelle was quoted as saying that her relationship with Meri became cordial to frosty overnight, details the Parent Herald.
The two have been sniping at each other over the smallest of things and one would take a swipe on the other every time there is an opportunity to do so.
In fact, their indifference was even mentioned by Janelle in the Brown family’s 2012 book entitled “Becoming Sister Wives: The Story of an Unconventional Marriage.”
Working to regain Kody’s trust
Meri is also working to regain the confidence and trust of Kody in light of her infamous catfishing scandal that rocked the foundation of their polygamous family last year.
She admitted that her relationship with Kody has never been the same again since the incident was blown out of proportion and she has been trying to get back on track and do everything she can to make amends on that respect.
Meri had an online affair with a woman who posed as a man. The woman turned out to be the catfisher Jacquelyn ‘Jackie’ Overton, who wrote a book titled “Almost Meri’d” that narrated her online relationship with the reality TV star.
While the relationship was merely online and there was no physical contact between Meri and Overton, some critics still brand Meri as an adulterer who cheated on the man she has been with for over 25 years.
But Meri defended herself by posting a cryptic message on her Twitter account late last month saying that she was merely Overton’s victim and not her lover.
She also posted a message about cyber stalking and cyber stalkers and urged her followers on the social media app to stop disclosing information about themselves online.
She said that people should be in the know by protecting themselves and their family and friends.
Meri also clarified that the TLC special “Catching the Catfisher” is not about her but about protecting the lives of the viewers, their families, and loved ones.
Season 7 of “Sister Wives” premiered on May 8 and it picked up from where the Season 6 finale showing the polygamist Brown family dealing with the implications and impact of Meri’s catfishing scandal last year.
If any, the premiere episode showed how the scandal shook the Brown household even as they all continue to live with its aftermaths in the subsequent episodes of Season 7.

The Browns have proved over and over again that Polygamy does nothing but harm the women and children that are involved in it. Kody will try to do anything to keep the show going, regardless of harming others.
