While “The Sims 4” has been doing pretty well on its own, it’s no secret that DLC plays a major part in this franchise, and even before the game came out, fans were already speculating about what they could possibly get from the first content package. And now, the big announcement is out, and EA have revealed that “The Sims 4” players are going to get a career-themed expansion as their first major round of downloadable content.
The new DLC will give players the opportunity to develop their careers in four distinct directions, each with its own perks and disadvantages. They will be able to become an ER doctor, where they will focus on saving people’s lives on a daily basis; a police detective who’ll constantly be trying to solve various different crimes and will be interrogating Sims, arresting suspects and criminals, and eventually climbing to the top of his career ladder, to the position of Chief of Police.
Then there’s the scientific career path, which will let players work on crazy inventions, collecting materials and slowly but steadily building their incredible creations. In the end, a scientist Sim will have to decide if they want to use their powers for good or for evil, and the press release seems to imply that players will be given both options.
Last but not least, we have the option of becoming an entrepreneur, something which gives players a bit more flexibility in how they’re going to develop their Sims, allowing them to start a variety of businesses, ranging from art galleries to bookstores and clothing shops. There’s even the option for a bakery, so those who’ve always wanted to see themselves building a successful business from the ground up will finally have the chance to do so.
The release of the new content pack is currently scheduled for April. It’s not known if EA are already working on the next DLC pack (which is not unlikely) and if we’ll get information about it before the first DLC is out. It’s likely that EA will speed up the development of these content packages after the first one though, especially if it proves successful.
EA have also been talking about their design decisions about the game lately, explaining why they chose to steer away from some classic choices that the franchise has traditionally been associated with. The studio seems to have a very clear idea for how they want to develop the game further, and they’ve been moving in this direction with everything they’ve done in “The Sims 4”. They are apparently aware that players did not agree with all changes introduced in the last installment, but have their own plans and are sticking to them.
