In terms of viewers in the United Kingdom, Sherlock has seen eight to ten million for each of the first three seasons. With only have three episodes per season, it has been amazing to see how many people tune into the show. The show is on the BBC, originally and has been moved to the Public Broadcasting Service in 2010 for those in the United States.
Sherlock Season 4 will be ready to view next year and that is going to create plenty of buzz around the show because fans are waiting so long for a season that is likely only going to last three episodes. Sherlock is created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss with Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freemon as Dr. John Watson.
The show has been nominated for a few awards, including a Emmy’s, BAFTA, Arqiva and British Academy Television Craft Awards winning in various categories “Best Terrestrial Show” and “Editing: Fiction”, just to name a couple.
I found this series quite by accident and fell in love with it immediately. I told my son about it again and again, and he finally watched an episode. And was hooked immediately. His wife as well. Three episodes seems scant, but they’re about 90 minutes long, which makes them like a mini movie, the dialogue is fantastic, the chemistry between the two main characters – and in fact, all the characters – is nearly palpable, the stories interesting and fun….there is nothing – I repeat, nothing! – to dislike about this series. Other than the fact that there are only 3 episodes. But I’ll take what I can get.
BBC is kicking our butts over here in the states when it comes to quality programming. Check out MI-5 and Strike Back, available on Amazon, for fabulous series production.
