Season 6 of the American TV comedy-drama “Shameless” is set to return to Showtime on January 17, 2016 but spoilers of the show have been so plenty on the internet one would think that the TV series would be happening in a few weeks time.
One of the most interesting possibilities is the gradual transformation of Frank Gallagher, played by William H. Macy, from being the typically useless and possibly being the worst father in the world to becoming the best he can be, notes HNGN.
Viewers of “Shameless” actually got a glimpse of the change in Frank after he fell in love in Season 5 with his younger lover Bianca, played by Bojana Novakovic, that their perception about his character started changing that there is still some good guy left underneath his very rough surface.
However, with the death of Bianca during the Season 5 finale, it seems that the transformation of Frank will be aborted and he will be going back to the South Side as his old usual no-good self.
There are speculations that he may be a changed man come Season 6 following his short-lived tryst with Bianca, but that is for viewers to find out. Most of the fans of “Shameless” believe that Frank is better off as his usual, narcissistic self who is an addict and selfish because he makes everyone in his family really look good.
Executive producer John Wells said that Frank’s return to his family is one of the interesting things that viewers and fans of “Shameless” should really look forward to in the next season. He also hinted that the change in any of his behaviors in Season 5 would not just disappear overnight, which means that there is a chance for Frank to turn for the better.
Recognized for great acting
William H. Macy has been recognized for his great acting in playing the character o Frank Gallagher in “Shameless.” He has been nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award, a Golden Globe Award, and two Emmy Awards.
As if the great acting was not enough, Macy added directing to his repertoire of contribution to “Shameless.” He actually directed one episode of Season 5 that included a sex scene and figuring out how to portray a sober Frank, which was a rare occurrence in the TV series, details Deadline.
In a recent interview, William H. Macy disclosed that the show is already filming the third episode of Season 6 of “Shameless.”
He also revealed that he will have an early scene in Season 6 with her daughter Fiona Gallagher, played by Emmy Rossum where they will talk about pregnancy and abortion that only “Shameless” can do so. Macy said that Frank’s position on the matter would leave many of the viewers bewildered and dumbfounded.
Tons of cliffhangers
The Season 5 finale of “Shameless” left fans with plenty of cliffhangers, the way the TV series’ finales do over the past five years.
Towards the close of Season 5, Fiona was left wondering whether she wanted to be with her husband Gus, played by Steve Kazee, or her on-and-off again lover Sean, played by Dermot Mulroney.
John Wells confirmed that Sean will be back in Season 6, but the future of Jimmy Lishman / Steve Wilton, played by Justin Chatwin, in the show is still uncertain.
Wells said that viewers have watched Fiona grow up a bit in “Shameless” and she is a woman now. He said that Fiona presents herself as a woman so the show is addressing that.
According to the synopsis of Season 6, there is going to be some change in “Shameless” but it is still not clear which characters will be experiencing what in the upcoming season.
The sixth season picks up a few months after Season 5’s finale, leaving the Gallaghers to prepare for yet another long Chicago winter. The season will see more than just the arctic Lake Michigan winds whipping through the Southside.
