Shailene Woodley just got in the news in a peculiar way, as the star was spotted protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. Not only that, but policemen reportedly apprehended the actress and took her into custody. According to reports from alleged eyewitnesses, the situation was very odd, as the actress was arrested when walking back to her car and not actively participating in the protest.
However, it’s not clear how true those reports are, and there are actually some conflicting eyewitness statements from the scene. In any case, police released Shailene Woodley on a $500 bond shortly afterwards. She was reportedly charged with criminal trespassing, as well as taking part in the protest.
The situation with the construction of the pipeline in Dakota has been hugely controversial from the very beginning, and it doesn’t look like things are going to calm down anytime soon. The proposed pipeline is going to span across several states, supplying crude oil to them – however, the plans involve the destruction of ancient burial sites for a local tribe.
The Standing Rock Sioux tribe, which considers the sites sacred, has opposed the construction since the beginning, and they’ve received widespread support from not only the local community, but people from other regions as well.
At the same time, the protests were unfortunately overshadowed by other major events in the news at the moment. Between the various scandals around the Presidential elections, and the recent natural disasters taking hundreds of lives, there has been little exposure for the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.
With that in mind, some fans of Shailene Woodley were actually happy to hear that the star was arrested at the event. According to them, this is a good way to bring the protests back into the spotlight. It’s actually sad that a celebrity has to get involved when so many people are already gathering to protest, but it just seems to be the way society works right now.
Some are actually suspecting that Shailene Woodley may have done this on purpose exactly because she was trying to draw attention to the situation. The actress is known for having a good heart and positivity, so we definitely wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case.
Shailene Woodley herself hasn’t made any statements on the situation, although realistically we wouldn’t even expect her to. Considering that she has been charged, she’s currently involved in legal proceedings so it wouldn’t be wise of her to discuss her situation with the public.
The only thing the actress had to say to the public was through her publicist, who expressed her gratitude towards her fans, and stated that it’s important that more attention is brought to the situation with the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Woodley has been taking active part in the protests in various forms, including by spreading awareness through her social media profiles. She has been encouraging her followers to contribute to the situation, especially by donating supplies if they can spare anything. And of course, participating in the protests themselves is being encouraged too.
We don’t know how much longer the situation can go on for, as it looks like nobody is planning to give up on either side of the scandal. Hopefully there will be a possibility for some peaceful resolution that pleases everyone, as otherwise this could turn into an actual violent disaster.
