The second season of the American crime drama TV series “Shades of Blue” will officially return to NBC on March 5, 2017.
That is nearly a two-month push back from its Season 1 debut on January 14, 2016. Critics believe that it is a matter of strategy for the network since the TV series did not turn out to be as great as it was hoping it to be.
“Shades of Blue” received mostly average reviews from critics who lamented the show’s predictability and also not so engaging script.
But they are also one in saying that Jennifer Lopez as New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective Harlee Santos was superb in her performance and is considered as the only positive aspect of the TV series, notes Premiere Date.
With that being said, it is expected that Jennifer Lopez will carry the torch for the embattled series, as far as critics are concerned, with the hope that the storyline for Season 2 would be more engaging, worthy of the talent of the triple threat celebrity.
In the TV series, J-Lo takes on the role of Harlee Santos as she is forced to become an FBI informant inside her corrupt team at the NYPD 64th Precinct led by Lieutenant Matt Wozniak, played by veteran actor Ray Liotta.
She also had no choice but to abide by the wishes of the FBI despite being very close to Wozniak and her fellow team members because she is also financially struggling as a single mother to sustain the education of her 17-year-old daughter Cristina, played by Sarah Jeffery.
Focusing on the relationship of Harlee and James?
There are also reports saying that Season 2 of “Shades of Blue” shall focus on the relationship again of Harlee Santos, and Assistant District Attorney James Nava, played by Gino Anthony Pesi.
In one of the behind-the-set photos taken in New York City for “Shades of Blue” Season 2, Harlee was shown having a deep conversation with James, and fans have speculated that it could be about their relationship, details Counsel & Heal.
It can be recalled that during Season 1, Harlee had a momentary relationship with James but she had to nip it in the bud because of her double agent work for the FBI.
Pesi has been promoted to series regular for “Shades of Blue” Season 2, which may have confirmed his character’s bigger role in the life of Harlee.
In fact, in some other leaked photos from the set of “Shades of Blue” Season 2, James was also seen kissing Harlee and there is also one where he is holding the lady cop very close to him.
While these leaked photos do not tell the complete story to justify the fan speculations, they are certainly adding more excitement and enthusiasm for the fans as they eagerly anticipate the airing of “Shades of Blue” Season 2.
A black-eye for J-Lo
Incidentally, Jennifer Lopez posted late last month on her Instagram account a photo of herself where she was sporting a real-life black eye.
Apparently, the shiner was caused by an accident while she was filming for Season 2 of “Shades of Blue.” She no longer divulged further details as regards the plot of the upcoming second season of the TV series.
However, some critics and viewers believe that with Matt Wozniak on the freezer following his arrest by the FBI during the Season 1 finale, it is likely that Harlee Santos shall take charge of the detective unit of the 64th Precinct of the NYPD.
She was the most level-headed when their department was embroiled in a crisis and with Wozniak not around, Harlee seems likely to take the cudgels from their embattled department.
While there were previous rumors saying that “Shades of Blue” might be canceled by NBC for its second season, the fact that filming has already begun months ago means that the Season 2 would likely return to the small screen early next year.
It can be recalled that the debut episode of “Shades of Blue” premiered on NBC on January 14 this year and ended its 13-episode run early in spring.
