Selena said she really liked to tell the public about her medical condition then because the rumors that went around were saying that she was under rehabilitation for some kind of drug addiction. But she was not, explaining that she locked herself away from the public view until she was ready, confident, and comfortable again.
Lupus is a category of illnesses that strike far more women than men. It is one of the several other autoimmune diseases that are relatively rare and affect only eight percent of the population.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 78% of those who develop such kind of diseases are women.
Selena explained to Ellen that she has decided to keep her disease a secret for three years because baring it in public would only complicate things for her.
She said that she also did not understand the repercussions of her medical condition so she wanted to keep it private. It is good that through treatment, she was able to survive and overcome her disease.
The launching of “Revival” became the perfect opportunity for Selena to come clean about everything. She said that it was her moment because she can honestly relate to people already.
