It was recently reported that Season 4 of “The Following” serial killer drama TV series has been cancelled by Fox and will not be extended for another year. Fortunately, the show was reportedly rescued from cancellation by streaming service Hulu.
The show initially had a significant number of loyal viewers and fans when it started with its first season. For some reason, the serial killer drama got a big drop in ratings for Season 3.
This was the time when Fox decided to officially cut their ties with the show. After this big announcement, Fox got a lot of backlash from Kevin Bacon’s fans. Most of them said that the show has been innovative compared to the network’s other series. They also said that this would be the network’s worst decision ever. Though fans could not really do anything to bring back the show, it seems like their unwavering support for the show’s continuation reached the streaming network, Hulu.
According to Cartermatt, Hulu could be the show’s brand new network. It was reported that Hulu could be the best choice for the show since the streaming network just picked up “The Mindy Project” recently.
However, after reaching Hulu, reports have confirmed that the company will not get the show. This has been a little disappointing for the fans but there is still hope.
The producer of the “The Following” said in a statement that they have already mapped out the storyline for Season 4. Though they did not state where the show will be continued, it seemed that the producers were confident about the show’s extension. Season 3 ended with a lot of questions for the fans so it would be really great if they will have a chance to get the answers.
In an interview with TV Line, show’s executive producer and co-showrunner Alexi Hawley mentioned that most known serial killers were poor or middle-class. She said this could be a good question to ponder on. The idea that this rich Robert Durst character is one who begs to differ the statistics. She said that rich people do not really get to have that kind of gene and that they do not basically have the proclivities for killing.
Additionally, she said that “The Jinx” is a gripping story especially when Durst said some things that could be considered as a murder confession. She also said that if they want to create an evil force in the show, a force bigger than Theo, Strauss, or Joe, it has to be an out-of-the-box character like Durst.

Moreover, there is a big question of Mike Weston, played by Shawn Ashmore, raising Ryan Hardy’s, played by Kevin Bacon, child. In Season 3, Hardy witnessed the death of his nemesis, Carroll, portrayed by James Purefoy. He was also perplexed by the news of him becoming a dad. With all the chaos, he needed to sober up and figure out the way to fix things. Even after killing Theo’s sister, Hardy still has an enemy who will not give up on him.
We Walt the show backgammon for a 4th season please!!
Sorry my ipad transformed some words!
My family and I are still waiting for another season of The Following. We were impressed w/ the incredible, thrilling, and amazing storyline that made us annoyed with Fox’s decision before the show’s season finale. I hope another TV channel or streaming services will pick it up and will continue the legacy of Agent Ryan Hardy.
#BringBackTheFollowing
The Following was one of the best Thriller/Mystery TV series next to Breaking Bad. This is the only time my wife and I can spend some quality time together and we enjoyed every minute of every episode of The Following. Please bring the show back for Season 4. There are many unanswered questions regarding the way that Season 3 had ended. My wife and I are eagerly waiting to hear what what station is willing to play The Following, whether it’s AMC, Hulu, Netflix, etc. Thank you for considering bringing back The Following.
Best,
John and Danielle
