Filming for the next season of “Scorpion” is underway, and reports claim that the crew has already reached the third episode in their progress, and at some point, viewers are reportedly in for an interesting surprise. The show will be spicing up its plot a little bit, in this case by introducing a new character, someone who’s apparently going to bring some interesting changes to the situation.
At the end of the first season, we saw Walter O’Brien, the team’s leader, putting himself in a dangerous situation where he could have lost his life. Of course, since the show was renewed for a second season, nobody was really questioning whether Walter would make it out of there alive, but he might still suffer some repercussions from his actions in season 2.
Apparently, he’ll have to do community service as punishment for something, most likely related to the way he was driving his car in the last episode of season 1, but this is a development that might also bring some benefits for the character. He knows how to make the kinds of contacts that he needs to succeed, and this will be no exception – during his community service, Walter is going to meet someone new, who will be joining the show’s cast for a while.
More specifically, Kevin Weisman will be playing the role of Ray, according to reports, as him and Walter are doing their community service. What makes this relationship interesting is that Ray is going to be a pretty much complete opposite of Walter in terms of intelligence and cunning, but this won’t stop the two from establishing a very strong bond, with Walter taking a particular liking to Ray and starting to appreciate having him around.
It might also prove useful to Walter to have Ray in his contacts, but we don’t yet know how. Considering that they’re both doing community service though, we can only assume that Ray might have some contacts in the underworld that would prove useful to Walter. He might even have some unusual skills that he can help out with, but not much has been revealed about the character yet, so we don’t know what to guess.
There have also been rumors that the character’s presence in the story will not be an entirely positive one, as he might also cause some issues for all of the main characters, Walter included. This might stem from the way he goes about his life, disregarding some of society’s norms that others deem necessary. It would be interesting to see how this kind of mentality clashes with Walter and his team, and that’s probably one of the reasons why the producers have decided to include the character.
We don’t know if the real Ray played such a major role in Walter’s life – even though the show is based on a true story, it’s also claimed to be “loosely” tied to reality, not strictly, so there might be a lot of creative freedom about the way Ray is presented compared to who Walter met in real life. We’re not even sure if the character is actually founded in reality yet, but we’re likely going to find out at some point during the production of the show. The fact that “Scorpion” tells the life story of someone who actually exists has made the show very exciting for many of its fans, and the producers know that fact and are trying to capitalize on it in any way they can.
