Season 5 of the American political drama TV series “Scandal” has just wrapped up last week on ABC but fans are already looking forward to its re-airing on Netflix slated next month.
Apparently, “Scandal” is one of the very few TV series which is being aired by a network and also by the streaming service but not at the same time but one after the other.
The fact that most fans of “Scandal” are already looking forward to the show’s re-airing on Netflix in a few weeks time only affirms the popularity of the TV series by Shonda Rhimes.
While Season 6 of “Scandal” is long ways off, there are reports saying that it is going to be aired late and that it will be shorter compared to the previous five seasons. And it has nothing to do with the show being canceled soon, which appears to be far from that.
The decision has something to do with the real-life pregnancy of Kerry Washington, the lead star of the TV series who plays the role of Olivia Pope, reports Bustle.
Still, fans believe that having “Scandal” Season 5 for a summer treat from Netflix is better than watching other TV series or shows that do not measure up with every single episode of Shonda Rhimes’ masterpiece.
What ‘Scandal’ brings to the table
For the loyal fans of “Scandal,” they are simply glued to the TV series because of its captivating storylines and great acting from the stars of the show.
The series has also netted some fantastic guest spots over the course of five seasons. The biggest ones were during Seasons 3 and 4 where the TV series had a run of noticeable guest stars in almost every single episode.
Even after the Season 5 finale, it is still not clear if Cyrus is indeed the real villain of the show or is just meant as a diversion. He has been betraying and scheming against Olivia at almost every turn alright but he is actually doing it to everyone, prompting his family to leave him too and making him look like a complete outcast.
As for the Gladiators in the TV series, it appears that they have changed completely from the early seasons. Quinn was a sweet, bumbling lawyer during Season 1 while Abby still had a different hairdo. Indeed, “Scandal” has rearranged its characters a dozen times since it premiered its pilot season.
There is also the fact that the show is unapologetically feminist in nature. When Olivia chose to get an abortion, it was both a shocking plot development and a bold statement. But it is not the first time that “Scandal” has featured feminist issues. Showing a woman exercising her right to choose is right in the show’s wheelhouse.
Projecting the number of Season 6 episodes
Season 5 of “Scandal” actually had the fewest episodes in the five years of the TV series as it only had 21. Its average during its four seasons is 22 episodes.
“Scandal” also normally airs during the fall but it seems unlikely for Season 6. Some critics are assuming that the TV series might not go beyond 15 or 16 episodes for the upcoming sixth season, with 13 episodes as the fewest possible number of episodes it can go, notes Cartermatt.
A 13-episode season is fairly standard for many new TV series. In any case, viewers are advised to hunker down at some Gladiator bunker until the show comes back later in the year for Season 6.
As its name implies, “Scandal” continues to focus on Olivia Pope and her crisis management firm, Olivia Pope & Associates and its staff, working together with some of the staff of the White House in Washington D.C. especially in dealing with various political scandals.
