‘Scandal’ Season 6 will be the Show’s Return to Form, Confirms ABC Network President!

The American political drama TV series “Scandal” on ABC normally premieres in the fall. But the network announced in May that it is pushing back the premiere of Season 6 not because the show is not doing well in the ratings but to give time for lead star Kerry Washington who plays Olivia Pope, to give birth to her second baby and recuperate before facing the cameras again.

Kerry Washington and husband Nnamdi Asogmuha are expecting their second child soon following the birth of Isabella in April of 2014 or around the end of “Scandal” Season 3.

While ABC has not announced the exact premiere date of “Scandal” Season 6, network president Channing Dungey has confirmed that the upcoming season is going to be the show’s return to form.

During the ABC presentation at the recent Television Critics Association press tour last month, Dungey explained that long-running shows normally undergo a little bit of ebb and flow. She disclosed that they have read the first script for Season 6 of “Scandal” and she describes it as fantastic.

She explained that for those who are saying that “Scandal” has somewhat lost steam and its original spark, they would be happy to know that the upcoming sixth season would feel very much like the TV series’ return to form, details Popsugar.

Kicking off on Election Day

The premiere episode of Season 6 of “Scandal” shall also kick off on Election Day which would give the show an immediate high tempo in terms of excitement.

Millie, played by Bellamy Young, will also get the shock of her life when she finds out that Cyrus, played by Jeff Perry, is going to be part of the opposing team.

She represents the Republicans while Frankie, played by Ricardo Chavira, represents the Democrats. For the vice presidency, Jake, played by Scott Foley, will run against Cyrus.

Millie knows who Cyrus is so having him in the vice presidential list means a great risk for everyone as the guy is a dirty soul and is the type of politician who will do everything to keep his power, reports the Christian Post.

Even after the Season 5 finale, it is still not clear if Cyrus is indeed the real villain of the show or is just meant as a diversion. He has been betraying and scheming against Olivia at almost every turn but he is actually doing it to everyone, prompting his family to leave him too and making him look like a complete outcast.

Olivia will try to move heaven and earth just to ensure that Cyrus do not win as vice president, While Millie is looking to come up with her own strategy against Cyrus, as the latter also has the beef on her since he was the Chief of Staff of former President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn.

Putting the relationship on hold

Fans of “Scandal” very well know that the main romantic pair in the show is Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald ‘Fitz’ Grant which is why there are plenty of ‘Olitz’ shippers around.

But actor Scott Foley, who plays Jake Ballard in the TV series, has another take on the issue which is sure to raise alarm bells among shippers of Olitz.

He said that Olivia Pope actually loves Jake and that she has previously chosen Jake but certain circumstances have just gotten in the way of their relationship.

Foley said that the White House crisis manager previously made a plan with the intelligence agent to run away on his wedding day but Rowan Pope, played by Joe Morton, got in the way by threatening Olivia with Jake’s life.

So Olivia was forced to say to Jake that she does not love him and has never loved him because she loves Fitz. Jake ended up becoming the running mate of Millie.

The actor said that Olivia and Jake have no choice thereafter but to put their relationship on hold for a while or until things get a little better.
