It’s very likely that even the showrunners themselves aren’t sure what will happen after season 6 and whether they’ll get a chance to continue the story or not. In the end, that depends to a large extent on the decision of the network, and if they’re not interested in continuing the show for whatever reason, there’s obviously nothing the producers can do.
So far though, “Scandal” has been moving forward quite well, and the production still has enough viewers to justify continuing it. If season 6 continues the trend that the producers have established so far, we can only expect good things from the show’s future.
The one thing we could see preventing the show from continuing right now is if Kerry Washington decides to focus more actively on her motherhood in the near future, rather than keep up with her work on “Scandal”.
It’s entirely possible that this could happen, but the actress hasn’t given any indication so far that this is what she’s planning. Some publications have actually been commenting on the situation as a real possibility though, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens after season 6 comes out.
As we said above, we certainly hope that “Scandal” is going to move on and realize the full potential of its plot, as there is arguably still a lot that the producers can explore. There’s certainly no shortage of ideas on the fans’ side, and a quick glance around forums discussing the show is enough to make that obvious.
