It’s now official. The premium Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will make its formal debut on August 11 at its home market in South Korea, reports Gotta Be Mobile.
The Korean tech giant has yet to announce or confirm the release date of the latest iteration to its premium tablet in the US or in other retail markets in the world but it is likely that an announcement will happen in the next few days or weeks. But according to rumors, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is likely to hit the US on August 21, which is speculated to be the same release date for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 5 phablet.
As previously reported, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will come out with two variants. The 8-inch display screen variant will come out with a retail price of $513 while the 9.7-inch model will be priced at $685.
Prices are also expected to be different when the devices hit the American retail market since it will be competing directly with Apple’s latest offering, the iPad Air 2, and the iPad mini 3, which are currently priced at $399 and $499 respectively.
This means that Samsung’s tablet is pricier than Apple which would make it a tough choice for consumers considering that sales of tablets worldwide have been on a decline as of late.
Aiming for excellence
JK Shin, CEO and President of IT and Mobile Division at Samsung, confidently stated that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere.
Samsung has really aimed for excellence with its latest tablet as the company did not cut any corners to ensure that the hardware sheet comes out quite impressive, cites GSM Arena.
Just like its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is powered by octa-core processor and also features Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels, a 3GB of RAM, and variants of 32GB and 64GB expandable internal storage.
Both tablets also sport an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing snapper. Both also have advanced features including the touch-enabled Fingerprint Scanner and MultiWindows for unrivaled multi-tasking.
The major differences between the Galaxy Tab S2 and the Galaxy Tab S are battery backup and weight. The 8-inch Galaxy Tab S2 has a 4,000 mAH battery pack and weighs only 256 grams while the 9.7-inch variant will sport a 5,870 mAH battery and shall weigh 389 grams.
Class-leading device
Samsung refers to its Galaxy Tab S2 as class leading with a new extremely thin and lightweight aluminum design.
Early reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will compete directly with the Apple iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3 especially when word came out that the upcoming tablet from the Korean tech giant will have two variants.
But the latest Samsung tablet’s premium advantage over the thin Apple iPad Air 2 is that it’s actually thinner at only 5.4 millimeters. The iPad Air 2 is 6.1 millimeters slim.
The Korean tech giant modified the device fingerprint scanner to make it better and more accurate and it also has more power under the hood now.
The refinements will enhance the user reading and web browsing experience using the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. It will also become an ideal device for gaming but not as a gadget to expect the best video playback experience.
Meanwhile, the battle for the next best high-end upcoming tablet is on among the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, and the rumored Apple iPad Pro.
While details of features and specifications on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 have already made the rounds on the internet since a few months ago, not much can be said about the giant Apple tablet. The American tech giant seems intent on keeping its ace up its sleeve until it officially launches its device this coming October.
