Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 to Beat the Next Apple iPad Air and iPad Mini to the Draw with Possible Launching in July

While the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has been previously touted as meant to compete head-on with the Apple iPad Air 2, it seems like the Korean tech giant is looking at the bigger sales picture.

Apparently, Samsung is planning to launch the next iteration of its flagship tablet next month in order to get a three-month head start on the next Apple iPad Air lines, which could be the iPad Air 3 and the iPad Mini 4.

There have been previous reports that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will be pitted against the Apple iPad Air 2 because they have technically the same specifications, according to Christian Today.

The most obvious similarity is the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will come in two size variants, the 8-inch display screen model, and the 9.7-inch display screen version, but both with 1536 x 2048 screen resolutions, which matches the sizes of the latest tablet offering from Apple – the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3 – that were launched in October last year.

Eyeing the bigger Bottomline

It seems that the Korean tech giant is not merely after giving the latest Apple tablets a worthy competition but actually beating the American tech giant in the market with its latest tablet line, notes Yibada.

The move shall also give Samsung a clear market advantage on the next iPad lines of Apple although if rumors are true that the American tech giant will be launching three tablets in October to include the giant iPad Pro, Samsung would not have a match for it.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 was reportedly spotted recently in the Federal Communications Commission office of the US, most likely to ensure that it is meeting all requirements as a consumer electronics product prior to its market launch, which indicate that it is about to be released to the American very soon.

Better than its predecessor

Apart from being thinner compared to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is rumored to come with a metallic frame, which has become the norm in Samsung these days following the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in March, which also featured metal uni-bodies.

Early reports indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will compete directly with the Apple iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3 especially when word came out that the upcoming tablet from the Korean tech giant will have two variants – one will sport a 9.7-inch and the other an 8-inch screens.

The 8-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will go up against the 7.9-inch Apple iPad mini 3 while the 9.7-inch will compete head on with the 9.7-inch Apple iPad Air 2.

But the latest Samsung tablet’s premium advantage over the thin Apple iPad Air 2 is that it’s actually thinner at only 5.4 millimeters. The iPad Air 2 is 6.1 millimeters slim.

  1. Thinner is not an advantage at this point. Especially when it compromises potential battery life. The advantages imo are the amoled screen and the apple like quality and form factor going into an android device.
