Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Ready to Compete Head-on with the Apple iPad Air 2 and Nexus 9

Multiple reports have been surfacing on the web regarding details and specifications of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

There were also reports saying that Samsung will roll out the upgraded versions of Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and the Tab S2 9.7, respectively, soon. According to Tech Times, China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center or TENNA has already approved the products’ launching.

Samsung is reportedly preparing for the latest iteration to its flagship tablet and would like to complete everything before the start of the second half of the year. A report from SamMobile stated that the South Korean tech giant is scheduled to wrap things up on the Galaxy Tab S2 this June. They even stated that Samsung will be unveiling not just one version of the tablet but four.

Included in the roster of the new Samsung Galaxy Tabs are the small 8-inch Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and the larger 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S2 9.7. It is believed that these tablets will be in direct competition with the Apple iPad Air 2 and the Nexus 9 since they have relatively similar sizes and are available for Wi-Fi only versions and Wi-Fi and cellular versions.

Still proving to be the next big thing, Samsung will reportedly sport an ultra-slim case for the tablets, allegedly thinner than Apple’s iPads. According to rumors, the Galaxy Tab S2 will be 5.4 millimeters thick, about half a millimeter thinner than the iPad Air 2. The 8-inch variant will also weigh 260 grams while the bigger 9.7-inch model will weigh 407 grams.

TENNA’s website also hinted that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 will have an 8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that has a screen resolution of 1536 x 2048. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 shall also have the same resolution.

Though the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 has not appeared on TENNA’s site yet, it was previously suggested that the tablet will be a 9-inch tablet that will measure 9.33 x 6.67 x 0.21-inch. Both tablets are expected to have at least the Android 5.1 Lollipop system on it. Though if it would come out later than the third quarter of this year, Samsung might decide to give the tablet the Android M that Google will be launching in three months time.

As far as the design goes, a couple of alleged Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 snaps were posted on the Twitter account, @OnLeaks. The photo looked like a 9.7-inch variant of the tablet. The Twitter account claimed that the design was inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S6 which has a metal frame and a glass back. Samsung has not announced the price range yet but it will likely be retailed for $399 according to initial reports.

Android Authority claimed that the tablets will be powered by Exynos 5433 32-bit CPU. But it could also be run by a more powerful processor. It will have an LTE capability and will have 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage and a microSD slot that can support up to 128 GB of external memory. The tablets are also expected to have a 3,580 mAh battery. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 version will probably have a 5,870 mAh battery. Both devices are said to have an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.
