Samsung promises to turn things around for 2017 following a rather prolific but otherwise controversial 2016 that was highlighted by the debacle involving the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
To kickstart 2017 on a high note, the Korean tech giant is reportedly all set to roll out its latest flagship mobile devices that seek to regain consumer trust and loyalty to the brand.
Apparently, Samsung made a list of new ideas anchored primarily on innovation to redeem the success that it has enjoyed but got sidetracked last year.
It can be recalled that 2016 was not a very good year for Samsung compared to 2015 which was due to the fallout of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Samsung’s flagship phablet last year was operationally defective and caused massive overheating that there were even cases of the device catching fire spontaneously. The ensuing worldwide recall of the device from the market cost Samsung over $5 billion in prospective revenues.
According to reports, the company will soon announce the results of its own investigation on the battery malfunctioning and overheating issues of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7
In addition, over two million defective washing machines from Samsung Electronics also added a decrease in the company’s profit margin causing a massive financial disappointment.
Further confounding the woes of the Korean tech giant that resulted to the tarnishing of the brand name last year, was the controversial political scandal involving the company’s CEO over an alleged illegal money donation to certain undisclosed foundations.
But all those things are behind Samsung now as the New Year brought new beginnings and new hope for the Korean tech giant to make amends and redeem whatever tarnished reputation it incurred last year.
Reports now have it that the Korean tech giant is already set to unveil its upcoming flagship smartphone for this year, the Samsung Galaxy S8 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 to be held in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 to March 2.
MWC is the world’s largest gathering of the key players in the global mobile communications industry where each one of them presents their latest mobile device offerings as best as they can.
Samsung has made the event a tradition to launch its flagship smartphone and it looks like the Korean tech giant will not be deviating from its tradition as it plans to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S8, whose rumored specifications and features would really shake up the competition among flagship smartphones.
Critics are still waiting to find out if indeed the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the key to redeeming the reputation of the Korean tech giant from the debacles of last year.
According to reports, Samsung will likely do away with the 3.5 mm headphone jack or commonly called as airpods in the new Samsung Galaxy S8.
The new smartphone is expected to be one of the top flagships in 2017 with the latest specs and features which will more than meet the consumers’ expectations.
There were rumors in the past saying that the Korean tech giant will not mimic the 3.5 mm headphone jack of the iPhone 7 and that of the Motorola Moto Z.
But it seems like the cards have been flipped and the company could possibly maintain the headphone jack in the Samsung Galaxy S8, especially when the removal of the port on the iPhone 7 has caused an uproar among iPhone users.
According to sources, it is yet to be confirmed if the headphones will be sold separately similar to what Apple did with its airpods.
The earphones feature Samsung’s new voice assistant named Viv which allows the users to dictate messages, request songs, make phone calls, and ask for directions.
In September last year, Apple also unveiled its airpods aligned with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch which were sold separately.
The Apple airpods started shipping only in December because of the huge orders that the American tech giant got and the significant amount of time to produce the accessories in great quantity.
