Samsung are yet to announce any new devices to follow up after the Galaxy S7, but some of their fans are already discussing rumors about what they could be planning and what might be in the works. It’s clear that Samsung are going to have to put a lot of work into their marketing if they want to earn back people’s trust after the current fiasco with the Galaxy Note 7, but they should still be able to make a solid release for the Galaxy S8, whenever it arrives.
And while there has been no news about the device on the official front, some sources claim to already have information about it, and if the rumors are true, it looks like Samsung are planning something particularly special.
Most of the claims talk about changes in the hardware, including a dual-camera setup on the back, as well as a new style of navigating the phone’s menus. It’s possible that the Home button will be dealt away with, although some fans have been questioning the legitimacy of this rumor.
After all, Samsung have spent a lot of time and effort refining their design, and they’ve made sure that people are used to the style by now. Then there is the deal with the huge legal battles they had to go through against Apple in order to be able to actually use their designs. In the end, it would just seem too strange for Samsung to give up on such a key feature of the device, but it’s possible that they are simply going to replace it with something more elegant.
Indeed, some of the rumors talk about a replacement for the Home screen rather than its complete removal, and it could be brought back in the form of a sensor button. That would potentially make the device slightly more durable than its predecessors, so it doesn’t really sound like a bad move at all.
Something more peculiar we’ve seen in the rumor line-up about the Galaxy S8 is the mention of a borderless design for its screen, giving as much real estate to the display as possible in favor of other physical components. This could be an interesting change to the design of the device, although it might be a little too complicated to implement.
One thing is certain though – no matter what the Galaxy S8 ends up offering, Samsung are going to face some trouble marketing the device. People are still sour over the whole situation with the exploding Note 7, and there have been some additional developments that further painted the company in a bad light.
It’s gotten so bad that airlines in some parts of the world are now reportedly required to make a warning announcement to their passengers before flight, requiring them to turn off their Galaxy Note 7 devices and to not charge them during the flight.
Some have described this as a “government sponsored anti-Samsung marketing campaign”, and it’s clear that it’s going to have serious effects on the company’s reputation.
Hopefully Samsung are going to be able to recover from this situation though, as it would be a shame to see the company being swept under the rug for this one issue. Of course, the problem is quite the serious one and it definitely should not be ignored, but Samsung also don’t deserve to have their entire reputation ruined because of it.
