Samsung Galaxy S7 Possibly Targeted for a Q1 2016 Release, Significant Memory Upgrade!

A new release in Samsung’s Galaxy line of smartphones has been due for a while now, but it looks like no new phone is coming out this year, as the company is targeting the first quarter of 2016 for the release. This is just a rumor so far, and we can’t confirm anything at this point as the company hasn’t made any official statement on the matter – but for what it’s worth, the release of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were too recent to warrant a 2015 release for the Galaxy S7.

The company has apparently been putting more focus on the display of the device, and they seem to be planning a massive rollout for it, having just placed an order for 8 million flexible panels per month. This is an impressive number and indicates that the company expects to sell a large number of units, but of course predictions are one thing, the reality could turn out completely different.

One of the rumors that have been going around about the device claims that it’s going to feature the Edge screen design that we’ve already seen in other devices by the company. Even though reception to the idea was somewhat mixed, Samsung themselves are apparently fond of it and are planning to feature it more prominently in their future releases. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that if they do some improvements to it along the way too.

This could also be a new record for memory in a single phone by Samsung, as it’s rumored to come with 6 GB of RAM with LDDR4 technology. Samsung have covered lots of patents for microchips during 2014, and they are likely using their new technology now to improve the performance of the Galaxy S7. That could result in a pretty significant leap forward for them, if they pull it off right.

And “pulling it off right” might also involve convincing Android users that they actually need 6 GB of RAM, as there aren’t many mobile applications that require so much memory at the moment, but of course the situation might change by 2017. That would actually be very smart forward thinking by Samsung, and looking at the way some mobile games have been evolving, it could make sense too.

As for a processor, the phone is expect to have an octa-core CPU running at more than 3 GHz – and in this case, it will be a true octa-core, not a quad-core with virtual processors or something like that. However, this has caused some concern among fans of the Galaxy line.
