Samsung Galaxy S7 May Usher a Foldable Display that the Korean Tech Giant Demonstrated 2 Years Ago Through Prototypes

While a foldable display is a novel concept among today’s smartphones, Samsung has already demonstrated the technological breakthrough as early as two years ago when it presented several smartphone prototypes featuring foldable displays.

Reports have it that the Korean tech giant is looking at incorporating the technology on its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S7, when the device is launched and officially released early next year.

Samsung may be pretty quiet about the technology at the moment, but it could finally break its silence soon once it confirms the foldable display front for its next-generation Samsung Galaxy S7, notes Tech Times.

During the CES 2011, Samsung first toyed with the idea of the flexibility of smartphone display screen. Two years later at the CES 2013, the company showed off its first foldable smartphone prototypes.

But the Korean tech giant has kept mum on the innovative concept of flexibility that it has shown to be possible two years ago. However, all these holding back could change soon when Samsung finally uses the technology on the Galaxy S7.

Samsung’s vision covers several display types including unbreakable, curved, foldable, and rollable. But up until now, the company has only turned the concept ‘curved’ into reality with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the Galaxy Round, and the Galaxy S6 Edge models.

Critical for Samsung

According to Value Walk, the Galaxy S7 will be a particularly important release for Samsung because the Galaxy S series, which has been the flagship smartphone line of the Korean tech giant, has lost a little of its reputation in recent iterations.

Unlike before when the Galaxy S series was considered ideal for the flagship smartphone niche, it is now considered outdated and has struggled to keep up with the trends in the retail market.

If not for the release of its groundbreaking Samsung Galaxy S6 in March this year, the Korean tech giant may have totally lost its grip on its reputation as one of the top smartphone manufacturers in the world.

The Galaxy S6 signalled Samsung’s return to form in the high-end smartphone market and it could surely sustain its good grip with a follow-through release with the Samsung Galaxy S7 highlighted by a foldable display feature. Not only will it be outstanding and spectacular, it will also put the reputation and credibility of Samsung as an excellent smartphone maker beyond any doubt.

Far more iterative

The Samsung Galaxy S6 made its official debut in March this year and subsequently got into the retail markets the following month.

Barely three months old into the market, however, there are already reports about its upcoming successor, the Samsung Galaxy S7, already spreading like wildfire on the internet.

But given the time element, most of these, if not all, are speculations and rumors so every bit of it should be taken with a grain of fine salt.

What is consistent among the rumors spreading around is that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be far more than an iterative update from its predecessor. The Korean tech company has significantly shown that it can come up with a massive departure from the norm, the way it did with the Samsung Galaxy S6.

The major deviation that Samsung made on the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge were so successful that many critics have praised the Korean tech company for it, and expect the company to make a rebound for its declining sales in three successive quarters during the previous fiscal year.

With the disappointment that was the Samsung Galaxy S5, the Korean tech company has lost its grip on its reputation as the world’s No. 1 smartphone manufacturer to American tech giant Apple.
