Samsung initially unveiled their new Samsung Cloud service with the Galaxy Note 7, but it wasn’t clear which of their devices would eventually end up getting access to the platform. Now, Samsung have confirmed that two of their more recent handsets – the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge – are getting the service, and it’s possible that it will be extended to other devices as well. This isn’t as simple as installing a new app though, as users will have to download an operating system update in order to make use of the new feature.
According to reports, the update isn’t all about access to Samsung Cloud, as it brings various other improvements as well, including security fixes. Users are highly advised to install the new version, even if they don’t particularly care about Samsung Cloud at this point.
The service has seen good reception so far, at least from those who’re able to use it, as there are still some restrictions, and the situation with regional availability remains messy as well. We expect that this will go on for a while, as the service is still new and Samsung will obviously need to take some time to iron out those issues.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 7 has been enjoying a lot of attention, as the device is almost here. Many users can’t wait to get their hands on the phone, and this doesn’t just include Samsung’s dedicated fans, but tech geeks from all over. This is not very surprising though, as the company has done quite a lot to distinguish themselves from other brands, and they are a well-known name at this point.
There are mixed opinions about the value of some of the company’s devices with regards to their price, but Samsung have decided to adopt the stance of a premium brand, releasing their devices with a lot of polish and also a matching price tag. The Galaxy Note 7 is not a cheap phone either, especially considering that it’s supposed to be even more capable than the current flagship, the Galaxy 7, in some regards. It’s actually one of the most expensive devices on the smartphone market right now, so it’s definitely not meant for the average user, but rather for those who know exactly what they are looking for in an Android device.
Is the phone worth the premium price tag? By most accounts, yes – we’re yet to see how well it will fare in the hands of actual users once people have had a chance to play around with it, but so far initial opinions from tech experts have been strongly positive. The screen has especially grabbed the attention of many reviewers, and it matches the overall luxurious feel of the handset, according to most accounts. But of course, the S7 Edge offers something special in this regard too.
It’s not just about the hardware, either, as Samsung have reportedly made various improvements to their version of the Android operating system, integrating various bits of user feedback. Everything seems to be more simplified and streamlined now, moving away from the cluttered design that the Samsung Android was known for before. The company could arguably still make some serious improvements with regards to the pre-loaded apps on the device, but that will probably come in the future.
After all, it’s one of the main complaints people have about Samsung’s phones in general, and this has been known for a long time. We can understand how having all these pre-loaded applications can be beneficial to Samsung themselves, but when so many people are actively considering custom ROMs not long after purchasing a new device by the company, something might be a bit wrong.
