Rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S6 and its new design are getting more and more prominent, and there is a common theme among all of them – there’s a pretty strong indication that Samsung are planning something major with their new device, and seem to be really trying to breathe some new life into their Galaxy line. It wouldn’t be a bad time for something like that either, as the company has been facing some rather harsh criticism about the lack of innovation in their Galaxy phones recently.
An alleged leak from the company showed the rumored specifications of the upcoming Galaxy S6, and it appears that Samsung are building a very powerful phone with it, trying to earn a strong position in the high-end segment of the Android market. The company is apparently rethinking the very base of the Galaxy platform, trying to re-imagine it is a more luxurious brand, with more powerful features and better quality materials.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is rumored to have an Edge variant along with the main version, although it’s not clear if it will be the exact same concept as the previous Edge bar that Samsung have featured in their phones. The feature was initially met with some skepticism, with many people questioning its usefulness, although in the end, once people got to see the feature in action, most were actually quite fond of it. Still, the general opinion so far seems to be that Samsung could do some more thinking about potential applications of this feature, and utilize it in more creative ways.
Which, according to rumors, is exactly what the S6 might do with its Edge variant. Other than that, the new Galaxy will reportedly have some serious hardware under the cover, and will offer a beautiful display running at a 2560×1440 resolution – something which used to be unspeakable for smartphones, but is actually becoming more and more prominent around the higher end of the market.
Samsung should definitely start thinking outside the box if they want to regain their top position on the Android market though, as the company has definitely lost at least some part of its innovative approach in the design of the Galaxy line. If they take a few risks with the S6, some of those might not prove fruitful, but the others may very well make up for the rest. As long as the phone starts making headlines for its innovation – in a positive way, of course – then Samsung have a good shot at rising back to prominence, and start defining the main trends in Android smartphones again. Otherwise, if they just decide to release an upgraded S5, it will likely go down in history as yet another Android phone in an already very saturated market.
