Samsung Galaxy S6 Leads Korean Company’s Flagship Devices in Receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop; Galaxy Note 5 to be Launched with Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on August 12

Google has just rolled out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Samsung flagship smartphones and tablets including the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S6 Edge, the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge.

According to the Android Community, Samsung devices are now getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop because the tech world is already waiting for the Android M to be released soon. Though the new Android 5.1 Lollipop features minimal changes compared to the Android 5.0 Lollipop, it nonetheless came with bug fixes, stability improvements, and performance tweaks.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop was initially launched on the Nexus line since those smartphones are devices from Google. The update focused on stability and performance improvements that were raised as major issues on the previous Android versions. But there are more to the update than the physical features.

In terms of the settings, the new update can shift between the Bluetooth and WiFi options easily. It also features an animated tapping option for the buttons.

Google also made it a point to improve the HD voice of the devices with the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. There were previous reports about the quality of the HD voice in Android 5.0 Lollipop, but the tech company stated that they had remedied the particular issue with the new Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The update can also support dual-SIM features which can reach a larger market because most of the smartphones in Asia are built with a dual-SIM feature.

Samsung devices can now have an updated screen pinning feature where users can easily lock guests or kids who are using the phone. The user can now choose which apps they would only want to share with their guests and kids who are using their phone. This is a brilliant feature in the new Android 5.1 Lollipop. Although this feature already existed before, it previously came in the form of added apps. Now, since it is already incorporated in the OS itself, there is no need for external software to implement this particular security lock.

Samsung is already rolling out the update to all of its users, but since the updates are released in different phases, it will still take months for all users to get the update. There is also an option to manually install the update, but it is not advisable unless the user has deep knowledge of developer mechanics.

There are also other tutorials showing the step-by-step process on safely downloading and installing Android 5.1 Lollipop on Samsung devices. Usually, Samsung devices receive an alert that the new update is ready for download. The user can tap on the screen options and download the update, then install. Once the update is installed, the smartphone or the tablet should be rebooted to update the device’s operating system. To check the success of the download, the users can go to the settings option and check the software updates under the “About Phone” menu.

A new variant of the Galaxy S6 Edge

Meanwhile, the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will reportedly be released this coming August 12 along with the Korean tech giant’s latest flagship tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, according to Forbes.

Samsung has a tradition for announcing their new tablets every September ever since they introduced the new Galaxy Note at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany back in 2011. Sources told the Wall Street Journal that Samsung might change things a little for this year by making an earlier announcement.

Android Lollipop 5.1

It was suspected that the early introduction of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus are parts of their overall marketing plan. By introducing their new flagship tablets earlier this year, Samsung will be a few months ahead of Apple’s latest iPad lines.

Tipsters from Sam Mobile indicated that the move might happen on August 12. After the unveiling, the products are expected to be made available to the retail markets right away.
