Samsung Galaxy S5 Users in Korea Finally Gets a Taste of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow!

Considering that the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a product of the Korean tech giant, it is really surprising that the update to its mobile operating system comes rather belatedly compared to other markets in the world.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update to the Samsung Galaxy S5 continues to make progress and reports have it that it will finally happen this summer in Korea and several more countries. Reports also have it that the updates will be pushed to the users in Korea beginning this month.

Specifically, it shall be rolling out to unlocked variants of the Galaxy S5 on KT, LG Uplus, and the carrier SK Telecom in South Korea, reports Gotta Be Mobile.

Other countries were the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow will roll out to the Samsung Galaxy S5 include Trinidad & Tobago in Africa, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy in Europe, India in Asia, and Canada in North America.

Reports have it that the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA updates have begun to happen this week and will continue on for the next few weeks.

In the US, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is already being pushed on the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S5 Sport under the carrier Sprint. And the new firmware updates bring Google and Samsung security updates, as well as bug fixes.

Sprint has just joined T-Mobile and Verizon in rolling out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to its Galaxy S5. The Magenta carrier already confirmed the updates on the Galaxy S5 a few weeks ago but the upgrade is finally rolling out to users only beginning on June 7.

Addressing overheating Galaxy S5

Some users have raised concerns about the issue of overheating with their Galaxy S5. The experts over at Android Forum suggested two solutions to the problem including buying a new battery and buying a Galaxy S5 case.

However, buying a case is the more affordable quick fix of the two but it is not really a cure to the problem of overheating but merely a band-aid, notes Phandroid.

Of all the possible materials for casing for the Galaxy S5, the leather-type would provide better grip than other materials.

Another suggested case that provides good grip and heat protection is the Spigen SlimArmor Case which is also a military grade drop tested and does not look bad at all.

Factoring shipping and handling charges, these Galaxy S5 cases could actually end up having the cost of a new battery so users really need to weigh their options carefully. However, users are also advised that skimping on price with a battery replacement is a bad idea and they may be better off replacing their overheating S5 with a cheap new Android smartphone.

A big surprise for Galaxy S5 users outside of Korea

Finally, the long wait of Samsung Galaxy S5 owners for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates have ended when the new Google mobile OS started rolling out to unlocked version of the 2014 flagship smartphone of the Korean tech giant.

It was not surprising, to say the least, since the Galaxy S5 is only two years old, which means the rollout of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates is within the smartphone’s prescribed age.

However, what came as a surprise to some users outside of Korea is that it is not just the Android 6.0 Marshmallow that arrived on their phone but actually the latest firmware update to the OS – the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Samsung Galaxy S5

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow updates have yet to roll out to the Samsung Galaxy S5 unlocked versions in its home country in South Korea so critics were thinking that only the Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates will roll out internationally.

Apparently, that is not the case as the latest firmware update to the Marshmallow started coming to Galaxy S5 in the US late in April as well as in some other countries other than South Korea.
