Samsung Galaxy S4 Users Can Now Install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with a Custom ROM!

Users should just remember to do a full backup of all their data, as flashing a new ROM means that the device gets wiped first. Pictures, texts, things like that should be saved somewhere else before the flashing begins.

It might be possible to use cloud storage to simplify that process and automatically recover the user’s data after the new ROM has been flashed, but most experts recommend using hard media for those backups, instead of relying on online saving methods.

Other than that, there’s really nothing special to note about the process of flashing this custom ROM, and all users who want to see a significant improvement in the performance of their S4 phones should definitely go for that option.

Plus, custom ROMs like this one tend to have a longer lifetime on the market compared to the official release branch, as the community is typically more interested in maintaining the OS in a good condition than the original manufacturer. Samsung are more focused on their new phones at this point, and that’s perfectly understandable – but those who want to keep using their older devices will have to spend a little more time and effort securing the important updates that they need.

  1. But how is the bluetooth? The GPE version and optimized cm12.1 both were very buggy. Pandora kept skipping and FCing on one and the other kept freezing my phone while listening on my bt stereo.. i had to go back to stock for these reasons. Great versions otherwise but i need my music :-(
