Samsung Galaxy S4 Likely to Get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update in the Second Quarter of 2016!

Samsung Galaxy S4 thus joined other Samsung devices which received the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop beginning last month including the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, the Galaxy S6 Edge, the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy Grand Prime, the Galaxy Core Prime, the Galaxy Mega 2, the Galaxy J1, the Galaxy Note 3, and the Galaxy Note 4.

After the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, it is expected also that Samsung devices from 2014 onwards will also be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

Many have thought that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would not get the update so plans were already in the works for the development of several custom ROMs to bring Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the Korean tech giant’s 2013 flagship smartphone unofficially.

In fact, even before the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop started rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy S4 last month, there was already a custom ROM developed for the Samsung Galaxy S4 that brought the new features and improvements of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the device.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop-based custom ROM was developed by Team Radium using the Cyanogen Mod. However, those Galaxy S4 users who opted to take on the custom ROM Android 5.1.1 Lollipop agreed to have their devices rooted first and that the batteries of their smartphones were at least 70% full because the installation process really took a long time to complete.

  1. The Galaxy S4 is an amazing phone, which raised the bar for all smart phones 2 years ago. If companies are ready to abandon support for ($600+) phones after a mere two years, consumers should really slow down on the phone upgrades to send a message to these manufactures and mobile companies. Mobile phones is the only electronic device that people spend so much money on, and are willing to ditch for another 600+ device 2 years later. Most of the time the current phones aren’t even paid off yet and companies want you to jump to the next version.

Consumers need to speak with their money and stop this insanity. Consumers need to ask themselves when they buy any of the following electronics, how long do they expect to use them before upgrading:

    1. Smart TV
    2. Computer / Laptop
    3. MP3 Player

You can a acquire a decent brand of these items for around the same price of a newly released Galaxy or IPhone series smartphone. Yet most purchasers don’t look to upgrade these items in two years.

One exception with Apple as they still supports my clunky classic 80 gig iPod I bought 8 years ago. Why can’t mobile manufactures do the same?

I still have my S4 in perfect condition and refused the S6 due to the direction Samsung took with the Galaxy series. I will upgrade when I see a phone raise the bar as high as the S4 did 2 years ago (which may not even be a Samsung brand).

  2. marshmallow for s4 in late 2016? haha, BS! even if it’s true, who gives a F*, this phone didn’t even get 5.1 despite 5.0 having tons of bugs. s4 was my last samsung device.

  3. Great to know Samsung included Galaxy s4 i9500 to get 6. 0 marshmallow update bcause lollipop 5. 0. 1 has lots og bugs and needs to get a stable 6. 0 update..
