Samsung is on fire! Not literally though! The Korean electronics giant has just revealed the current flagship product – the Galaxy Note 4 – and the smart accessory – the Galaxy Gear S – and plan on launching the highly anticipated S6 sometime later this year or in early 2015.
This however has not stopped them from announcing the launch of another premium device known as the Galaxy Note Edge. This is a phablet similar to the Note 4, and hence comparisons are bound to surface.
So how does the Galaxy Note Edge fare when pitted against the Galaxy Note 4? We find out!
Design and Display:
The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sports a 5.7-inch AMOLED display featuring 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolutions along with 551ppi density. The Galaxy Note Edge is smaller by 0.1-inch at 5.6-inches and features a 1,600 x 2,560 pixel resolution. It is AMOLED too and packs in a 524ppi density.
While the Note Edge weighs approximately 174 grams the Note 4 weighs 176 grams. The Galaxy Note Edge is also thinner at 8.3 mm while the Galaxy Note 4 is 8.5 mm. Additional details on the Edge are awaited while a comprehensive review will be formulated soon.
Samsung claims that users will be able to view notifications on the screen even while it is locked. Hence, users will be able to lend their smartphones to family friends and relatives without having to worry about violation of privacy.
You can now view movies or access YouTube even while the screen is password protected. Innovative, we must add! Samsung plans to introduce the Note Edge in the Indian market soon, and we will get back with additional details when that happens.
Hardware and OS:
It is too early to comment in detail, although, both devices are expected to run on Android KitKat OS v4.4 while featuring 3 Gigs of RAM.
Camera:
Both the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 feature a 16 MP primary camera and 3.7 MP secondary cameras respectively.
Battery:
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is rumored to feature a 3,000 mAh Li-ion powerhouse, which is quite a relief considering the huge performance potential of the phablet. The Note 4, on the other hand, currently features a 3,220 mAh Li-ion battery, which is fast charge enabled. Hence, users can charge the battery in an emergency and use it for a while.
Price and Availability:
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is currently priced at INR 61,500 ($996) for the 32 GB variant, which is expandable up to 128 GB. According to current estimates, the Note Edge is likely to be available in 16 and 32 GB variants, although, the final price is yet to be ascertained.
Stay tuned for more!
