The Samsung Galaxy J7 didn’t cause a lot of commotion when it came out, and its release mostly went by under the radar. The device still managed to bring quite a lot to the market, at least a certain segment of it – those looking for relatively good hardware but unable to drop the money for a full-featured flagship. While it’s not the best device in terms of hardware capabilities, the Galaxy J7 definitely managed to impress many people and it’s still seen as a pretty good deal for its price, all things considered.
It combines a good screen with a relatively large resolution – 1280×720 is not really top-line nowadays, but it still holds up well compared to other phones, and it looks nice enough on the 5.5 inch display that the J7 is equipped with. The picture quality itself is nice and clear, according to many, and the phone doesn’t leave a lot to be desired in this department.
The J7 also comes with a relatively good camera, with a 13 megapixel sensor and some pretty nice post processing going on that improves the final result significantly. Nowadays, we’re seeing less and less emphasis on making cameras with large sensors, and more attention towards improving the actual picture quality of the images captured with those sensors. This can also be felt somewhat in the Samsung Galaxy J7, and the device reportedly takes pictures that look surprisingly good for a phone/camera of its class.
On the other hand, it also reportedly feels nice in the hand and has a good physical design that doesn’t leave much to be desired. At least for that price range anyway – the device is obviously not a flagship and this can be seen both on the outside as well as when using it. But it’s still not a bad product and Samsung’s designers know what they are doing when it comes to working with more limited resources.
Other than the above, the Galaxy J7 also has various more minor features that all add up to create one of the best deals in this market segment, and one of the hottest talks of the smartphone market right now, which was well-deserved.
People should especially appreciate the way Android 5.1 runs on the device, with smooth navigation through the menus and no noticeable issues. It’s good to see that some devices shipping with the operating system are performing properly with this version, as there have been reports that not all Android devices officially certified for Android 5.0 and beyond can actually run the operating system so well. In some cases, users are claiming that the device lags a lot after being used for some time – but that’s certainly not the case with the J7, which has been the subject of a lot of positive attention both from users as well as critics. Samsung are not only a manufacturer who values quality, they also know their own market and know what their fans want to see.
There have been some minor criticisms towards the TouchWiz interface by Samsung, but that’s certainly nothing critical as the device can always be rooted and its operating system can be replaced. TouchWiz has generally been a controversial addition to some of Samsung’s phones, and reception to the technology typically varies a lot from device to device. In most cases, people are happy with the extra features that it brings, but sometimes devices turn out to be a bit too underpowered to handle it properly.
