Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) to Come with 3,300mAh Battery and Not 4,300mAh as Earlier Reported!

Contrary to previous reports that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) midrange smartphone will come out with a very generous 4,300mAH battery, it has been clarified that the handset will come with a 3,300mAh power source, which would be a 300mAh improvement from its predecessor.

No less than the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the US made the confirmation when it recently certified the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016), following its certification by the Bluetooth SIG, notes the GSM Arena.

The latest iteration to the Galaxy J7, which was first launched by the Korean tech giant in June of last year shall come in two processor variants – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 and the Exynos 7870 chipsets.

One of the two processor variants of the original Galaxy J7 unveiled last year had a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset so there are also reports going around that Samsung might opt to raise it a bit by using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC.

Based on the FCC certification, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) shall have a Super AMOLED display with 1080 resolution. It shall also have a 13-megapixel camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper. The smartphone shall also be capable of supporting dual SIMs.

Custom ROM Marshmallow Update to Galaxy J7

While the Samsung Galaxy J7 and its sister phone, the Galaxy J5, were launched only in June last year, its probability of getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is only 50%.

The main reason for it is the fact that the Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5 are midrange handsets. Samsung is known for its step-motherly treatment of non-flagship smartphones. This means that even if the Korean tech giant decides to release the new updates to the Galaxy J7, it will still take many months because the marquee phones will be the priority, details the International Business Times of India.

As the most trending smartphone of 2015, and also the most popular mid-ranger, XDA Developer Forum members have recently released an Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based CyanogenMod CM13 custom ROM for the Galaxy J7.

However, the firmware is merely an experimental preview version so there might be some bugs in it. Users of Galaxy J7 are advised to exercise caution before going ahead with the installation or risk their devices being bricked.

Users should also be aware that installing the custom ROM improves the device’s performance and UI experiences, it also voids the company warranty. The company will no longer be liable to provide updates in the future.

Samsung Galaxy J7 users have two options to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow without using the unsanctioned custom ROM update – wait for the Korean tech giant to officially roll out the update sometime in the future or wait for the launching of the Galaxy J7 (2016) which would surely come out with Android 6.0 Marshmallow as its OS.

One-year market cycle

Early last month, reports started coming out that the 2016 editions of the midrange smartphones, Samsung Galaxy J7 and Galaxy J5 will come out after the latest flagship handsets of the Korean tech giant are finally unveiled and officially make the markets.

The speculations started coming along following Samsung’s launching of the Galaxy J1 in January. As part of the J series, users were expecting that this year’s edition of the Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy J5 will also come out soon.

The latest flagship smartphones of Samsung, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge were officially unveiled during the Korean tech giant’s press event before the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 on February 21 at Barcelona, Spain. The flagship handsets will officially make it to the retail markets on March 11.
