The Samsung Galaxy Alpha has hit the market amidst much fanfare. The device is rumored to bear a close resemblance to the much hyped and eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S6. However, the Galaxy Core 2 lags behind by a huge margin in terms of refinement and performance. However, this is not a major drawback once you compare their price points. So how do both these devices compare against each other? Let’s find out!
Samsung Galaxy Core 2:
The Samsung Galaxy Core 2 features a 4.5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen featuring 480 x 800 pixel resolution, 207ppi pixel density and 256K color definition. The smartphone measures 130.3 x 68 x 9.8 mm and weighs around 138 grams!
The smartphone has 4 GB of built-in storage, which is expandable up to 64 GB via an external MicroSD card. The device has 768 MB of RAM and supports MicroUSB v2.0 along with Bluetooth v4.0, A2DP. The Galaxy Core 2 runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat and draws power from a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core CPU.
It features a non-removable 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery and has a 5 MP primary camera featuring 2,592 x 1,944 pixel resolution with LED flash and autofocus. The additional features on the camera include touch focus, Geo-tagging, face/smile detection. The camera is also capable of filming 480pixel videos at 30 fps. A secondary VGA camera is found on the Samsung Galaxy Core 2. Not impressive, we agree!
Samsung Galaxy Alpha:
As the name suggests, the Galaxy Alpha is, well, the Alpha product from the Korean electronics giant, at the moment. The device measures 132.4 x 65.5 x 6.7 mm and weighs an impressive 115 grams! It features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M color definition, 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution and 312ppi pixel density.
The Galaxy Alpha comes with 32 GB of built-in storage along with 2 GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on Android v4.4.4 KitKat and is upgradable to v5.0 Lollipop. It features an Octa-Core Exynos 5 chipset with a 1.8 GHz Quad-Core Cortex A15 GPU.
The smartphone draws power from a 1,860 mAh Li-Ion battery and supports a 12 MP primary camera sporting 4,608 x 2,592 pixel resolution, LED flash and autofocus. Some of the additional features include Geo-tagging, autofocus, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama and dual camera. The primary camera is capable of filming 2,160 pixel videos at 30 fps, 1,080 pixel videos at 60 fps and 72 pixel videos at 120 fps.
The Samsung Galaxy Alpha is miles ahead when you compare both these devices spec-wise. However, considering that the Core 2 is priced at $189, while the Galaxy Alpha is priced at a whopping $749, the former is not such a bad option. Hence, if you are looking for value for money, the Samsung Galaxy Core 2 should do just fine, considering that you are ready to make a little compromise.
